Didn't know where else to post this. I figure somebody here knows a bit about scrapping.
I have several radiators to scrap. How is the best way to prepare them for the most money?
I also have hundreds and hundreds of feet of wire that is coated.
Is there a way to strip it or do you just take it as is?

Just put the wire in a burn barrel.
Rideandrepair and Hulld Thank this. -
Put the wire in a barrel and burn it, a little old oil helps. Radiator cores are generally just hauled in as is.Rideandrepair Thanks this.

DO NOT BURN WIRE!
Most yards WILL NOT PAY for burnt wire, unless it is proven to be from a house fire.
Too many meth heads that steal and burn wire to prevent identification of source.
It is also illegal to burn wire in many places.
Plus, after factoring the lost insulation weight and the downgrade in copper quality (burnt wire is dirty copper at best if they even buy it) it may come out as a wash.Rideandrepair and 201 Thank this. -
Isn't wire with the insulation still on not generally wanted by scrap yards? Been a few years but the last time I did anything with wire they'd take it with insulation on but they wouldn't pay you for it, same with aluminum cans.Dino soar and Rideandrepair Thank this.

Take the radiators as is, unless they have some brass fittings or such, I don't deal with wire, per se, I would probably take it as is.
Dino soar and Rideandrepair Thank this. -
That may have been when scrap copper wasn’t worth ####. Yards will absolutely buy insulated wire, but they will pay less. Beats nothing for burnt wire.Dino soar and Rideandrepair Thank this.

This was 7 or 8 years ago, they paid for burnt wire, but then we only had 25 or 30 pounds worth.Rideandrepair Thanks this.

I know a guy with wire stripper. If your around sw mn I could help u out
Dino soar and Rideandrepair Thank this. -
Poor guy, down to turning in copper wire,,
, things are bad all over. I knew a guy that did that, had a bunch of scrap wire from construction sites,,took a drill, and a razor blade, and stripped the wire that way. Burning it off contaminates the copper. Once, I hauled a load of "copper chops", they called them. It was like 20 palletainers of these copper punchings, like dots. Seeing what copper goes for per pound, , I figured 40K pounds was the most valuable load I ever hauled.
Rideandrepair Thanks this.
