It doesn't matter if your hauling a load across the street or across the country it's all good if the money is right. You are in too deep to get out now. Good luck .

Alright, get this. I guess the local load fell through, because my dispatcher texted me a rate con for $500 from Austin to Longview. He didn't even ask if this was okay, and this is the third time he booked a shipment without asking me first. I can't work tomorrow, and he knows that. Longview is so far away, that I won't have hours left for a back haul. Not that he could find me one at 10pm anyway...

Round trip is 742 miles, with like 450 miles dead head. Now this is not the shipper's problem. It was a good rate for the miles he needed the freight moved. I told my dispatch if they really wanted it hauled, I'd do it for $1,200. He said he already booked it!! I told him there was no way I could, or would haul it. "So you want me to cancel?" "Yes, I want you to cancel, and don't ever book another load without talking to me first." (I figured that part was a no-brainer, but I guess not.)

So he cancelled the load. Couple minutes later I get a call from someone asking if I was the guy hauling the load. He was super nice, and I explained the situation, and that it wasn't his fault, or problem, but the situation is what it is, and there's no way I could haul it. He said "What?! Your dispatcher told me your truck broke down! Sir, excuse my French, but your dispatcher can go #### himself. Please tell him on my behalf to go #### himself."

What the effing eff....I felt sorry for the poor guy.

    Ugh...

He's actually done it three times so far. He told a customer I was thirty minutes away, when I hadn't even pre-tripped the truck yet, and the pickup was 50 minutes away anyway. He booked a load before I was unloaded, and had to cancel. And then this debacle.

I hate to rant, but the load he had to cancel because I wasn't unloaded...lmfao...
"I can't pick it up yet, I'm not unloaded." (nobody even at the dock yet)
"What? Why not? Your appointment was at 8am."
"IT'S NOT 8AM YET!!!" Yeah, I raised my voice a little.

So I lost a sweet back haul of 3,500 lbs for $750. About 240 miles. That sucked. I ran out of hours four minutes from my house, and had to log personal conveyance. (I was empty) I sent my location to show where to dispatch the truck from, and he asked me if I was wanting another load. AHHHHHH! Sorry to rant, but this guy knew I was out of hours. I only told him about ten f'n times.

Coffey, Rideandrepair and Lite bug Thank this.

Not a lot of requirements to be a truck driver.

NO requirements to be a 'dispatcher'.

“The truck is brokedown” is the industry standard and oldest fall back excuse in the book. Couldn’t tell you how many times i’ve heard that when we are waiting for a shipment we need to receive. We once had a convoy of three 40ft shipping containers coming in from Japan and all 3 broke down on the way and were 2 days late. Drivers showed up and said no one broke down and ran pretty much non stop from California ports and they were just given the loads late. Lol!
