    SR,

Sent you a pm. Most of the time leasing companies like Ryder and Penske have a bunch of trailers they need to get rid of because they have more coming in, and they will give out good deals. I know several people running reefers and making 1.20+ mile.

Looks there living the dream. You know there's better rates for reefer than 1.20. Don't recommend something when that's the most some are making because there's people making alot more. And all those trailer's you're recommending are just old local trailers not made for OTR.

You need to re-think your plan. In all honesty, you do not have enough cash to start your "company". If you at least had an account to haul for, maybe. But to buy a truck/trailer and hope to find work for it without a cash reserve is way too risky at this time. You might consider an O/O that is selling his truck AND a job with it. Knight Trans sells 10 year old dry vans for $6000. Any $1500 trailer I've seen is not something you want to depend on.

Most the trailers I ran when I was OTR were old trailers that didn't look like they were made for OTR lol. They were maintained well enough though that they kept on running them. I really don't care so much what a trailer look like. As long as it's a safe, and functional trailer that will make me money.

It's all part of the plan. Helpfull tips along the way by people like you.The more I look into it, the more I realize that I should just stick to humping 23,000 lbs of food a day out the back of a trailer for Sysco... Sigh.

I'm not saying do it or don't. That's nobody's call but yours. I will say there is rarely reward without risk.

In our situation we are still in our 20's and we don't have any kids. The only thing there is to lose is time and money. We're going to continue to lose time working our miserable jobs. Money can be got again. Worse case scenario, we ruin our credit. Oh well. Good credit can be got again. I try not to listen to the nay sayers so much. If they say don't do it and their only reason is because the economy, the rates, the industry as a whole..... blah blah blah. Any nut can give those reasons for anything. If they say don't do it and have advice and or suggestions, I definitely listen.

I don't know.... guess that's just me. I can't stand all the ones who say don't do it yet they aren't trying to do anything different so they must be staying afloat....

Luis, I know there is higher rates but I used 1.20 as a number. Granted there will be higher paying jobs once you get established with a broker who knows you.

Yep that will work but only with a letter of intent from a company. They will not finance you with getting your own authority. They accept people with bad credit because they pay more attention to your work ethic and where you will be leasing on to then credit.
