Plus a 48’ looks better unless it’s a 53’ with the rear axle to the back with a 12’ spread.

Man backing a spread is difficult enough but a 53 with the axle all the way back. Need 40 acres lol

The shipper requires the smoke tarp, one will place it on the bundles, and don't get on the trailer, or you are gotta there.

I was pulling a 53 step and loved it. However, if its not paying to get it then no sense in it. I just liked the fact I could reach everything nice and easy from the ground.

Really depends on the area. I know around my area I'd be better off with a regular 48 flat

I have a flatbed... I just might be doing better than my buddy with a stepdeck...

Actually he might just be doing better than me with his stepdeck...

Seriously get the trailer you feel fits you and your liking not what someone else feels...

Regardless, it seems you can never have the right opendeck trailer for the area you're in when those big money loads pop up...

    The way the cookie crumbles.....

Lol yeah. Living in the northeast I'd probably get a tandem over a spread. Lots of small old towns with telephone poles right on the corners of the street. Pretty much every small town in pa and CT

Every couple of days I see a 53' only request on the internettruckstop in my area that pays significantly better. Not worth the extra weight and dealing with opening and closing the spreads depending on state to me. A 48' is a pleasure to pull and that's also worth something.

53 step with a spread takes a little more room. And yeah those light pole and telephone poles right on the corner while turning right could getcha quickly.
