First of many questions to come from a (hopefully) future freight agent. Currently studying and learning about the field and the job with plans to go operational early next year.
I am talking with several freight agent schools that offer agent placement with either their own (related) brokerage or an unrelated brokerage that takes on their graduates.
Having reviewed several of these companys' agent agreements, I am comfortable with my level of understanding with regard to the relationship. But for the life of me I cannot understand how I'm supposed to present myself to potential customers.
I would think that my business identity would be Jon D. Freightdog, Agent For Ten States Brokerage, MC #000001, and that my business identity would be similar to an Allstate agent contracted under Allstate Insurance Company. That agent uses Allstate letterhead and does not have his/her own website or company name. The Allstate website has a search for local agent option which displays agents near an entered zip code.
But all of the schools that I've talked to say that it is best to establish your own company with website and business identify (logo, etc.). This is a huge gray/unknown area for me and I would appreciate any help that might be offered in coming to a better understanding of this issue.
thanks!
