Hi everyone, I am super new here and I tried to google as much as I can. I called different truckers before I make this post and I am getting different answered. I am located in California. I don't own a truck/tracker or have anything related to DOT but I am planning to buy the below

    -53' dry van trailer
    -40' intermodal chassis

The reason why I want to buy them is because I have 2 different warehouses in California that I want the freight to move in between and also not payment chassis to the port of Long Beach, CA.

    1) I know I need to register with the DMV of California.
    2) Do I need to register with DOT or FMCSA even when I only provide the trailer to the 3rd party driver and don't move them?

Thank you so much if you can answer.

All I can help you with is the container chassis. Most today are "stretch" chassis', meaning you extend them to hold a 53 foot can, if you need that. Better to have one and not need it. Also, it would need a spread axle, if Cal. allows that. ALL containers are overweight, guaranteed, it's why it's shipped in a container.
