Because most kids at 18 the bread ain't fully baked yet. They need a couple of years living in the real world to mature and get some experience first. Like I said... that's just my opinion.

And once everyone finally agrees letting 18 yr olds drive is just fine, well, you know many states you can drive at 16, even down to 14 I think.
Well #### that's just another case for discrimination if we don't let 14-16 yr olds drive trucks interstate now, isn't it? -
And yet I could have gotten my license and pretty much ran coast to coast in Canada at 19. Don't really see what the big whoop is all about.

Pick a number. 18, 16, 21, 45, 89. The age of when someone matures is something a culture decides on. It's all subjective. And meaningless. I bet all of you reading this know a young person who can do this with training.
