I'm needing some unbiased advice from guys with experience with 2010-12 ISX cummins engines. Pre Def with dpf. How are they for reliability? Looking at one to buy in a t660 with 730k on it. It's a retired Navajo truck. So, how do they hold up? I'm used to E model cats. Runs good and drives good but has a long crank. I don't expect that to be a major problem. It also seems to have some "protection" from drivers set in it. Won't rev past 1700. Engine fan wont come on with the manual switch but the light comes on in the switch, and it won't idle up with the cruise. Im experienced with a wrench and know these aren't supposed to idle a lot but I hate idling at 700 much at all. So can this things be disabled? What should I watch out for? Thanks!

Man, it’s hit and miss. My 07 emission Cummins were kinda crap, the one 2010 I have has been extremely reliable, and many of the 2013 emissions isx have been problem childs.

The 2010 which is in a 2013 I own for whatever reason has been great. 675k miles and I’ve owned it since 300k miles. If you can afford it though, just go newer with a 2017 x15. Those engines are great.

If it's a 2010-2012 it's going to have DEF. I had a 2013 in my small fleet, I wouldn't recommend those years. I'm pretty sure there are threads on here about the carbon issues and the oil consumption.

It is an 09 built 2010 model. It certainly doesn't have DEF.

Ooooh ok so it’s an 07 emissions. They were not too good on fuel, and ran pretty hot. Try for something newer.

I know of 2 x-15s that didn't do well. The one I don't know how the owner op drove it but it went down at apprx 75k. The dealer fixed it and short time later down again. Guess they put a brand new engine in it. The 2nd is in my friends trk. Its almost 3 years old with 194k on it. Was in the shop awhile back with a exhaust issue. ( think something to do with emission crap). No warrenty. Now its in for a head gasket( they think) it hasn't been tore down yet. Think next week he should know more. No warrenty again. Mayby some are good though. Oh and another friend has one and its good so far, but only 75 or 76k on it. We will be watching.

And they are definitely X15 not the ISX? Pretty surprised. I buy warranty to 500k but hadn’t had to use it even once.

I would avoid it. From my personal experience, it was a nightmare. I had DPF issues (never idled, I had an APU), camshaft issues, and needed a rebuild at 590k. This was on a 2010 KW T660. Getting rid of that truck was the best thing I have ever done.

Yes. The one getting a new head was purchased in October 2017. Mayby November 2017. Other one is not a year old yet. Hope yours serves you well. Sometimes i think the manufacturers make some better than others to keep hopes up. I think back a few years where one engine manufacturer had alot of cam trouble in their engines. Was told , "oh we just happened to get a bad batch".
