You can absolutely break it down like that and it's true. They 100% dropped the ball for him. It costs no one money but him.
Me, yes I would take the "risk" to be sitting at their gate come Tues morning, get offloaded early and be ready to reload and keep rolling. I'll explain why below.
Instead of admonishing me on the internet, think about what that permit really is. A fee to a state to run some extra weight because at some point someone came up with the arbitrary # of 80k lbs. as the "safe" weight limit. Really it is nothing but a $ grab. If that load was right at the legal limit would it actually be any safer to haul? Will 80k lbs do less damage than 85k?
Why would I run it without a permit for 1 state? Because at a company like WE, a driver who got the job done will get treated better than the driver that made excuses as to why he couldn't do it. Does this also set the driver up to be pushed to do more shady stuff in the future? Sure, but thats the risk you have to figure out. All I care about is making $ for the sole purpose to take care of my family, its the only reason I work.
In the flatbed world of junk freight like FJ and I haul, the more we do, the better money we make. Its all a game of bs rules that are against us for the most part. I have no issues of letting it be known that Im not in this to make friends, I'll do whatever it takes do better than the next guy, even if its a friend.

For dependable power and fit/finish, I'd probably choose GMC, but after the crap they pulled with their stock and government buyout, I'll never own a GM product again. I'll carry a lifetime grudge against them for that alone. While I like the power and ride of Rams, I'm sick of replacing junk suspension components and battling premature rust out. I religiously took care of mine, and the bedsides and rockers still went at 10. On the other hand, F150 frames always seemed to rust out in front of the rear axle. Not sure if any improvements have been made since the early 00's since I haven't really worked on any newer.

Sir with all due respect he works for a mega company. If u have never worked for one u cant understand that they punish u for thinking for urself... and no u do not move up in the chain of command by getting #### done, only get urself in trouble. It is different if u are an owner op or small company guy where getting #### done builds a good rep for urself ... mega is complete opposite, u only open urself to ways of getting fired.clausland, SeeJayneRun, cke and 14 others Thank this.
