Sure..... You are on your own for the first time. You will miss a turn, get lost, struggle with backing, learn to manage your clock and trip plan efficiently. Learn how to find parking, learn to drop and hook efficiently, learn the best time to start your clock and when to shut down. The list goes on. It takes time and patience.

 

One thing I would challenge you do you OP is learning all you can about air brakes and the names of all the parts. It's not really complicated, but it is a separate test. In fact I would advise you to find your states CDL Manual and study it. ALL the information you will need to pass the written tests is IN THIS MANUAL!

 

What if someone doesn't qualify for a grant and pays Roadmaster 6-7 grand out of pocket for schooling and then quits or gets fired. Does Roadmaster forgive the loan???? I think not. Most companies that pay " Tuition Reimbursement" pay about $100-200 per month towards that. How long does it take to pay off that loan with interest? Certainly more than a year. There are lots of options for training. One size does not fit all.

 

DID I SAY ONE SIZE FITS ALL?? I said check out the options first. I know that not everybody is even close to a trade school. I just believe that you should at a minimum check these options out. If they are not viable then go sign that year contract! I just will always advise checking this out before signing a contract!
