I found it pretty hard to deal with any broker but the big guys my first 6 months. I did run a few from smaller guys but not many. CHR will set you up with a contact once you sign up with them depending on your area. You can call or email these guys none stop and ask what the rates are. My broker now sends me the rates they have off the system they run when I tell him I will be in whatever area I am at. So now I see the low and high of what they will take. If I ask for a load he just tells me the max and then I push up from what DAT is saying average is. Unless it is a good deal then I might take it. Just got a job like that from MO to OK for 2100 one day pick and drop next morning. Make sure to build that partnership right away. some will laugh and say CHR is no good but it honestly depends on the contact you have with them.

There is nothing hard about it. Just time consuming RE Paperwork and all the other things that go along with it. I do NOT have the patience to deal with brokers. That's why I have customers.

I just drove 540 miles. 270 bobtailed to get my trailer, and 270 with empty trailer. I've scaled the truck at just under 18k. The combo is just over 27k.

The truck will do 70, but I kept it at 65. That's 1,400 rpm, and it was a consistent 12 pounds of boost with the trailer. Engine temp never moved from 190. Oil pressure steady at 35 psi driving, and 28 psi at idle, once the engine was warmed up. I averaged 6.9 mpg. This is with an ISX 15, 2.64 gears, 24.5 tires, and the tranny is direct drive in tenth.

The way I calculated my fuel mileage, was I burped the tanks before I left, and then I tried to fill them to the exact same level when I got back.

Anything stick out as abnormal to you guys?

Nope. Everything soinds good. Today was the first cool day not in the 90’s we've had in 7 months and the first not in the 100’s for 40 or so days so the coolant didn’t have to work so hard. Lol!

About the only difference between your rig and mine is I'm running low pro 22.5 tires. Getting about the same numbers when I run like I should. But I have a lead foot. When I'm on the turnpike and the speed limit is 80 I'm going to do 80.

Sounds like good fuel mileage from some one that is practicing economy.

Congrats. Keep trying new brokers. Search the boards and call them and get packets done with any free time you have.

I started, as others have stated, with CHR and TQL. Nowadays I won't touch them. Every time I try they screw me.

Here are some other big 3pl's and brokers that a lot of people don't think of first off. Def worth a call to see if they will run you because they do have the freight. I'm a van guy though BTW.

Thanks. I'm no longer working with that dispatcher. I'm running straight load boards right now.

Dropped off that sod, and I'm already at the next shipper waiting to get loaded with reels of coil. Straps, no tarps. Less than 200 miles, and $500 bucks.
