The people that want to start driving at 18 will find a way to do it. They will get their CDL and work for a farmer or construction company just to be able to drive. Not being able to cross state lines until 21 is just stupid. The 18 year old that has no interest in trucks won’t be looking to drive truck at 18 anyway.

this crap..............again...........????
thank goodness i am retired.
"some" 18-20 year olds "may be" mature........but i'm going on a general consensus (of my own) many more, are not. do not forget, that is the generation that thinks they don't have to do anything, and get all of what they want, for free.AModelCat Thanks this. -

Worst case scenario you’re at the truckstop it’s a comfortable evening 3 or 4 guys start tailgating on the back row. Try to send new guy to get beer. New guy comes back empty handed, they carded me somebody else has to go.

I second that!AModelCat and Wasted Thyme Thank this. -
You take an 18 year old with no desire to drive truck and they probably won’t make it long enough to even drive by themselves before calling it quits. They don’t have a need to be out here unless they want to be. They can go get any other job in the world. It’s a different situation than a middle aged man with mouths to feed at home that goes to trucking school out of desperation as a last resort.
