I've heard of guys paying 600+ a month to rent a van that's too much imo unless their credit is F'd or something

I bought both my gooseneck & stepdeck new. I have a few reasons why. Everyone won't agree, but that's what makes the world turn..

    Gooseneck
-They were pretty cheap in '14. Lots have almost doubled in price since then. Mine was $13,300 out the door with lots of options that I specifically spec'd. I also spec'd it to be built with 39'2" of deck instead of typical 40' you find on dealer lots. That way hooked to my specific truck, it complied with the 65' rule for truck & trailer combo many states have. (Different length laws for tractor semitrailer)

-You may hear me crab about this from time to time, but I hate how lots of other guys load their hotshots. Those little trailers do poorly with heavy, concentrated weight, & many of them load them at the axles, or aft of them. Actually lifting weight off the trucks drive axles, & putting unnecessary longitudinal stress on the thing.

-Guys bang them into curbs & whatnot. Lots of the standard leaf spring suspension on them is not adjustable. Seemed like a headache in the making to save a few thousand bucks, but lose it all in downtime.

    - I don't trust half the hotshots out there, just didn't want to buy something that was mistreated basically..

    Stepdeck
I got new too. Not as complicated a decision. Wanted a specific deck configuration for my operation which is not very common. Was looking for used, but they priced themselves out. Used asking prices for what I wanted were only $10-$12k less than new for 12-15year old wagons..

There is nothing wrong with a used trailer though. Had I run a regular tandem drive truck like most everyone else, I'd of just bought an easy to find 10' upper, 38' lower 48' step more than likely. I need more versatility in my operation though, as I don't scale as much weight..

Lmao. I'm one of those cases!! By the time you add FET & accessories, my wagon was 5x's more than Ol Bucks purchase price.. :D
