I am a victim of the economy for about 18 months and looking at becoming a trucker to make a living if I can get hired. The sad part of this for everyone is that trucking companies probably let experienced truckers go and hire new drivers to save money. Having been a senior manager sometimes doing that is counter productive and actually costs more money when you consider all of the costs and having an inexperienced driver.
-
maybe you know more about running a trucking company than the owners?

I have been laid off since June first.
I was not looking for work at first, planning to go back to my company when freight picked up. It has been 4 months now, freight is not up. So I am looking.
Not many decent company's are hiring in my area though, so I will go for a company that can keep me rolling till the economy recovers some.
I don't like it. I never planned to go to another big company. But I am finalizing paperwork now, and probably headed to orientation a week from Monday at a large carrier.
Nope. I am not a happy man. -
I'll sit at home and eat dirt before I'll work for a mega-carrier. Especially now with the crummy miles, you're lucky to break even. Nope, no way, NOT gonna happen. But I am happy..and will eventually find a GOOD job. Good Luck to you all !!

Hopefully you guy's will find another occupation. It's going too take some time for the economy to change for the better.
Good Luck
