What about just increasing following distance. My 2020 Freightliner company truck has that and you have to be something like only 2 or 3 seconds behind someone and it will start to beep. It kinda amazing to see how close other drivers are when the cut back in front of me sometime. Some are only 0.5 seconds pass me before coming back over. My truck has Adaptive Cruise Control and will back of power off just a little to increase the distance. Lots of driver come over way to soon. I can also adjust the following distance from 3.9 seconds to something less I never changed it yet because even 4 seconds is close. I have the Freightliner Driver Assurances 4.0.

I can’t imagine. I drove a car that beeped when I got to close to the yellow or white line. On narrow country roads it literally about drove me insane till I figured out how to shut it off. I’d tell the company I can’t take it. Surely they can shut it off.

In all seriousness I am in agreement with the OP. It’s kinda of like the boy that cried wolf. You get so used to that thing dinging and beeping at you, when something is going askew, the driver may not pick up on it just by being numb to all the warnings. Enough is enough with the beeping and warning. Every company has such a peeing competition about how safe they want everyone to be and not to drive distracted, then stick someone in a truck with constant alerts and involuntary braking. Just my $.02.

Find the source of the beeping then stab it with a screwdriver. And when you get back clean out the truck and go work for someone that doesn't have that garbage.

You know you can change the distance right? That’s what I’m able to do in my 13 freightliner.

I have a '20 Cascadia, and literally the ONLY TIME it beeps is when I'm following too close and not increasing the distance between me and the vehicle in front of me. That's it. It doesn't BEEPBEEPBEEPBEEP all the friggin time. It doesn't BEEP when someone is "a quarter of a mile" in front of me (actual range is around 600 feet, depending on conditions). It doesn't BEEP when my favorite sports team loses or when my tummy is upset from eating too much crap. It doesn't BEEP immediately when someone cuts in front of me (there is a delay on my truck of a a few seconds to allow for this, and to determine if the vehicle now in front of you is moving faster and away in distance). Even the camera won't activate immediately if you're getting BEEEEEEEPBEEPITTYBEEEPED at unless again, you're not increasing the following distance.

I drive in California. We have a few vehicles in this state. I drive on average 9-10 hours a day. I get BBBBEEEEPPPO!EEEDBEEEPEEEDBBBBEEEEPPP at perhaps 2-3 times a day. I must be doing something wrong...

Totally agree. I don't know about the new Freightliner, but my new Volvo is out of hand. I've had collision avoidance in 3 other trucks. All 18's and 19's. It was a little annoying, but no big deal. First of all, it only went off when you were actually following too closely. And it wasn't very loud. But this 20' Volvo is like an air raid siren, and it never stops if there is any kind of traffic. So I made my boss turn it off. It was too much. The problem is, I don't mind the system. It's the noise I can't stand. They just removed everything, and now the Cruise doesn't really work. I mean, you can lock in a speed, but it doesn't adjust to the vehicle in front of you. So it's only really useful when you've got a quarter mile between you and the next vehicle. It's completely useless on I-5 through CA especially. I used to just lock in on the vehicle in front of me. The shop claimed they couldn't just turn off the noise. Or maybe they didn't know how. Believe it or not, Volvo refused to do it, so it had to be done at Tech. WTF? And they wonder why they can't keep drivers.

Hmm.. Used to have to wake up and look out of the cab over Mack's sleeper to see if Edgar was following too close. Might have been a good attachment if not too loud. Our deal was I did not follow too close and he did not drive sleepy.

If you can lock in a speed, than your cruise still works. That’s the whole point.

Now, the feasability of using it at certain times on the other hand is another matter.
