When I was running in a F550 I removed the back seat and built a really nice aluminum frame to support a 40x60 custom made mattress. I'm 6'1" and although I could not lay flat if I went sort of corner to corner it was large enough to give me a decent night sleep even when sharing the space with my 40 pound dog. I'm guessing the dog felt the same way because she could have moved to the front seat if she wanted to but rarely ever did.

I never had a problem being bothered while sleeping there or any questions from DOT about having slept there.

Now that I have moved up to a semi the frame and 6 month old custom mattress (Still in the factory protective plastic!) are just sitting in my garage taking up space... Maybe I should post it up for sale one day...

Yeah, that doesn't seem to bad. Probably a good idea to post it for sale. I'm sure someone can use it.

I'm thinking of doing just that. Not sure where the best place to post it for sale would be though??

Does anyone know for Hot Shoters can we sleep in the over hang of our gooseneck trailers without it being illegal?

A legal sleeper dimensions are, ready for this? 72" long and 24" wide, must have a 12 sq inch ventilator at each end, and be easily accessible to the drivers seat. There is a company in Elkhart, IN Dan's Hitches that sells a kit to remove the window mechanisms on the back doors of a 4 door pickup, which gives you the 72" requirement. You can crack open the windows to make the ventilator requirement. Snug, but legal.

    Sirscrapntruckalot Thanks this.

You can sleep anywhere you want and be legal. Just gotta do it off duty. If you log sleeper, you must be in a valid, legal sleeper.

Then only reason you need a sleeper is if you are running teams and need to be in the sleeper for the log book.

When running solo you can sleep wherever you want while off duty. No need for a sleeper.
