I’m going to change oil, replace cooler lines, I’ll probably take the cooler off to clean the fins. It’s a 13 spd. Anything special that I need to do?. Last time I just drained and filled.

Eaton Trans, has always taken 50W, but I think they changed it now to 40W, at least for the Automated trans. The Endurant in a class by itself. Sounds like you have good plan. Trans temp guage a must. Once i had one blow out of the vent, ended up it was cooler leaking and filling trans with coolant, few months later trans was done
Rideandrepair Thanks this. -
That happened to a friend, He kept loosing coolant. Couldn’t figure it out, till he saw it leaking from the trans. My cooler has oil only, no coolant. I read something about flushing all the oil out. As long as I take it off, I’m thinking I should get it all. I was reading on Eatons website, that 40w is now used, or 50w. I’m going to stick with the 50w. The trans has about a million miles on it. Hoping it will last a little bit longer.

The only other thing I can think of is maybe the seal at the back of the transmission?
I can't remember if it was 400 horsepower and under or 350 horsepower and under but they said that I could delete the cooler and I put a special bypass cover on it.
I know you travel a lot farther than I do so if that's something you would consider you have to check with Eaton about that or maybe some of the guys here would know about that.
I like it deleted because it's just one less thing.Rideandrepair Thanks this. -
Again, I heard synthetic is the way to go for boxes and rears.

How much does a cooler help on keeping temp down?
Reason I ask is I’ve thought about putting one a 13 just for the heck of it on a hobby truck. Lol!
The temp hardly ever gets above 150 now with its light use. I wouldn't want to drop the temp so much to the point where the oil can’t flow good or naturally work the moisture out of itself due to not enough heat.
I’ve been using Mobil synthetic 50w for years in all my enchant trannies with great results. Always buy it in the 5 gal buckets and hand pump it in seems to be the easiest to handle.Final Drive, 201 and Rideandrepair Thank this. -
I hear a lot don’t even have one. I’ve always had one on my Trucks. The 99 I had was mounted in front, on the bottom, a bad spot if you run over a deer. This ones mounted on top of the trans. This is the 3rd trans in this Truck. First 2 barely lasted 500k. I think the previous Owner was at fault. Just seems strange. This ones got 1.2+ still good so far. I’d better keep the cooler. It never gets real hot, and does warm up in winter.SmallPackage Thanks this.

The transmission "cooler" works in two ways. It does keep it cool when pulling hard, but it also warms it up when it's cold out. Like the kind of temperatures that you have to put your foot on the shifter to move, or use both hands! The northern guys can relate to this!!!! So in reality, it keeps it at a reasonable operating temperature.
Does that bring back any memories, semi retiredSmallPackage and Rideandrepair Thank this. -
Unless you’re planning on pulling some serious weight or mountains all day, then you really don’t need one. Where it’s mounted will decide how much it cools. Mine is mounted to a cross member behind the trans. It’ll bring it from 180ish down to 150 in about 20-30min after a hard pull.spsauerland, SmallPackage and Rideandrepair Thank this.

That’s where mines mounted, not much air flow, I imagine, I noticed the whole front of it is clogged with oil and dust. Being in that location, it’s easily neglected. My last Trucks was mounted low, I cleaned a lot of deer hair and guts out of it, a few times. It’s a wonder it never got knocked off.SmallPackage and 062 Thank this.
