Thinking of buying a Ryder used truck. Feedback PLEASE

I work for them and you are absolutely right service is crap and a lot of techs with no certifications at all .

 

You will for sure need cash for repairs or you might lose your hole ### in the deal be careful.

I work for them and you are absolutely correct. I’m a manager at one of the shops that do the out services and get them ready to sale.

 

Don’t buy one PERIOD . I work at a sop they out service them at and all they have us do is polish a turd .

 

I’m a manager at one of the out service shops that get them ready for sell and I can promise you oil leak , after oil leak , after oil leak . Mechanics can’t fix nothing because they are all punk kids . All I can say is don’t buy, and if you do good luck !

 

You better bring a good mechanic because I run one of the shops that prepare them for resale and our techs don’t know their ### from a hole in the ground trust me .

 

Do you REALLY want to pay almost $30K for a truck that is 13 years old and had countless drivers over the years? Forget about all the other fluff. Just answer that one basic question.

 

My previous job which I started about 4 years ago I worked for a FedEx Ground contractor who would only buy ProStar's from Ryder or Penske. Most of them had a Cummins, a couple had that ####ty MaxxForce (ironic name because I had trouble pulling a single empty pup up a small hill). Oldest truck was an 08, mine was a 2013. Pretty much all of them had problems. Electrical gremlins, DPF's would clog up every week and had to be manually regened. Actually, manual regen from the truck wouldn't even work, the mechanic had to force it to regen with a computer hooked up. One driver had his steering link break in half. Thankfully he was backing into a trailer and not actually driving on the road. The interiors were falling apart. My truck also had an "interesting" feature where if you are driving in winter, you'd obviously turn up the heater...except that would cause something to overheat in the fuse box, and then truck would simply shut off. Even while driving. Not fun when that happens driving through a bend on the BQE in Brooklyn, especially when the truck turns off, so does your power steering.

Granted the electrical gremlins and interior falling apart can be attributed to International's "Quantity over Quality" approach in building their trucks. Still, I wouldn't buy a rental truck.
