I would take the mirror out, remove the clips and pull from that end. There are probably a dozen more hidden clips that would stop me tho

OK, so I replaced the Wilson trucker 2000, with the Firestick2 on the back of the cab, like the previous pics.
Initially had perfect SWR on ch40, but way high on 1. So I stretched the tip out a bit, and got it evened up around 1.7 on 1 and 40. On 20 it doesn't even move the needle, so I guess that's as close as you can get to perfect. Normally I just run 19, but at the refinery we need 1 & 2 occasionally.
I wonder if one of those 3 prong ground plane attachments that connect at the base of the antenna will help?
I still want to avoid putting it on the door if I can. -
Take a look at some of the antenna studs. The thing that goes one the plate that is at the bottom of your antenna. Some of them are longer, or even add an antenna heavy spring to make it just a little bit longer.
-
If I put a spring or longer stud on it would I still be able to tweak the readings with the tip?
How about if I use the angle style mount (Single Groove 4-Bolt Aluminum CB Antenna Bracket Mount) instead of the mirror style, (https://www.grainger.com/product/RO...ucid=N:N:PS:Paid:GGL:CSM-2294:GN4Z6X:20500731) which would also raise the mounting point? -
If the antenna needs to be longer to have a better swr, yes you can still adjust things with the adjustable tip.
-
The mount it self won't matter much. It is all in the length of the antenna. You are using an 18 foot cable correct ??
-
No, in order to route it to where I mounted it, I needed a 25' cable.
rabbiporkchop Thanks this. -
I honestly cant answer that. The amount of cable plays into it, and is why i said 18. Hopefully someone else has the answer for that and what a 25 foot vrs a 18 foot cable will do.
-
Seven feet is the difference.
Unless this is no-ground-plane equipment we are talking about, the length of the cable should not be a factor in performance, except that the extra seven feet of cable will allow the antenna to reach the radio.
