Forgive me if you took my comment as bashing women. I never meant it that way. My words meant to bash the firms who want to create a bigger labor pool of people that they can turn over.
No the individuals who want to drive don't consider themselves suckers, I was referring to what the large companies who train these new recruits refer to them as.
And yes, 9 cents is a little low, as you noticed.
C.R. England pay's their suckers...uh I mean "Trainee's" a whopping 12 cents per mile. http://www.crengland.com/truckingjobs/index.jsp?page=student_overview
A fresh 12 cent per mile driver every 6 weeks, friend, that's the way you maximize your profits. There are dummies out there paying guys 30 cents a mile to hold a steering wheel. Now is that any way to run a billion dollar company? Of course not, we got to cut expenses and raise up profits anywhere you can.
DOT wants more women in trucking

I didn't take your comment as bashing women at all. I took it as bashing all the "suckers" or trainees. I understand where you're coming from now. Yes, it's sad that people who want to come into our industry are treated that way by many of the companies.
You show that you've been driving for seven years, how did you start out? Let's have a hint or two on how to survive if a person is hired. Thanks! -

Boy, that's the truth. There were moments I seriously considered leaving a certain someone out in the sands behind a large rock.
And I love that man......I'd have missed him........eventually.
It's hard to share a rolling telephone booth and bluntly YES we women do need all that stuff we bring.TRKRSHONEY, simplyred1962 and dollylama Thank this. -
i cant slam a door in his face, so i pull the curtain shut with attitude. i think i have more personal stuff in the truck then he does. i have alot of "just in case " stuff.

also, he has a rolling parts department and i have a rolling costmetic counter. ha ha
Texas-Nana and simplyred1962 Thank this. -
Clothes.........he thinks they don't matter, thus 3 pair of jeans, 4 shirts, a few sets of undies and he's good to go.
I personally feel the responsibility of making the trucking industry a prettier place. Therefore I must at all times be color coordinated from my sweater to my undies, have my hair fixed and make up on. I'm quite sure the rest of the industry is deeply grateful for my efforts.

I am a woman trucker, now going on 3 years. I love it. I had a male mentor when I was training. I started with a female, but she had a home emergency 4 weeks into my training. Just needed to finish up my next two weeks. Found a guy to do it. He had a w-9 (kenworth, long nose...) boy did I get my training in! Good luck to all the women out there wishing to partake in this industry. You have to be willing to give up most of your home life to do this, because it actually becomes your home out here on the road. I absolutely love it, and it gets in your blood! I am still learning the ropes, but now they have gps's out here for us girls! Well, I bet there are a huge amount of guys that have them too. Gotta watch for those low underpasses! Garmen cheapy gps's don't know you're in a big rig! I support any woman who can come out here, and make it. Hats off to those who already have!

When I first got on the truck with hubby, he had 5 of everything, and one ratty, tatty, falling-apart UGLY winter coat.
It took awhile, but I finally convinced him that his "Sunday" underwear, (holey), and ratty coat had to GO!!
I bought him new jeans, new undies, socks, and T-shirts,plus a couple of "nice" shirts, for when we actually get to go do something!
We now each have two weeks worth of clothes on the truck, (well, I have a BIT more, ya know...have to have my "I'm bloaty" clothes, etc!! LOL)
Also, he has NO IDEA, where anything is, except for his tools, and spare parts...ROFLMAO!!
Judi Kay
**yeah, I'm "high-maintenance", but he wouldn't have it any other way!!**
Texas-Nana Thanks this.
