They deserve it. All it takes is a bit of reading to learn how to fix it yourself. Threads like this are everywhere and packed full of information.

LOL. My record so far is 863 trojans and viruses on one driver's system. Took over 4 hours to get it completely clean, but he insisted on not slicking it and reloading the OS from scratch. Kajidono is right, there is a ton of info here and elsewhere on how to do it.

I wouldn't pay $1 to get my computer "fixed" from a virus. I can reinstall an OS in 15 minutes. If you keep your data backed up, and on a seperate partition, this isn't a problem. Hell, most of the time, I'm running Linux. To be honest, Windows is a pain in the rear, but I like my games.

I rest my case concerning windows.
By the way, you are never going to completely clean a machine like that. That 4 hours was a waste of time. If windows users would partition their drives, and put their "my documents" folder on the new D: drive, a clean install can be done at any time in under an hour without overwriting your personal data. Burning it off to a dvd every couple of weeks or so is a good idea too. As far as Antivirus software goes, the free ones are just as good as the commercial ones, in my opinion. I've seen computers loaded with infections like the one you are describing and Norton never put out so much as a peep about it. In fact, 99% of Windows computers I've seen loaded with viruses like you are describing, the user almost ALWAYS fails to download Windows updates. -
And you base your opinion upon what facts?? Your stating that Windows Anti-Virus is just as good as Kaspersky Internet Security, a full blown internet security suite??
Or is it more that you just dont want to pay any money, therefore you use free ones.
Something tells me that is probably the later, unless you can provide some solid tech facts backing up your claim.
Norton=Virus
My computer stats:
Last 5 years
Number of virus's: 0
Number of spyware infections:0
Number of trojans 3..........blocked by Kaspersky.

I am a self taught computer expert wannabe.

I currently use Norton 360, Spybot Search & Destroy, do all of my Windows, Spybot & Norton updates, run my scans regularly & have not had any problems SO FAR in about 2 years, on my laptop, running Windows XP, which I use OTR.
My desktop, also running XP for about 3 years now I think, and which is only turned on approx 1 week (if that much) a month when I am home, has had some Spyware, 1 virus, 1 trojan. I got rid of everything by searching info on forums.
Anyway, my question is, I have not heard of Kapersky and am wondering how it compares to what I currently have?
Also any thoughts on why my desktop at home has had problems, but my laptop traveling with me, has never had a problem??? Seems to me it would be the other way around, but like I said, I am an expert WANNABE

It works about as good as anything else. IE not 100%
That comes from somebody who averages 20-50 viruses and/or trojans a month
kickin chicken and SilveradoBlue Thank this. -
I think this site will hopefully explain it best.

It could be one in a million different things..........hard to say unless I really had them both in front of me to work on.SilveradoBlue Thanks this. -
Internet Explorer is the worst browser you can be using in terms of security. Try using Firefox 3.5 or even Opera 10.00, and I bet your problems would be reduced significantly. The use of a good anti virus program or even better a internet security suite is also a good choice. To say that Kaspersky works just as good as anything else is just a uneducated reply in terms of computer knowledge.
Its also wise to keep up with the latest service packs from Microsoft, by getting them through windows Updates.

Out of curiosity I ran the internet client that Kaspersky has set up on all my systems (since I run no a/v at all.) It did find one thing: mIRC, which is not a virus.
