I prefer either 7mm mag or .338 Win Mag for that type of distance. Its been a looong time since I messed with that type of stuff. Also, you wont be doing any kind of precision shooting at that range with an out of the box Remington 700. I have a Tikka in 7mm Mag that will, but the scope alone was well more than you paid for your rifle and its gotta be atleast 25yrs old.

There’s been a lot of talk about that particular assassination for many years. One documentary spoke of the possibility of the passenger firing the deadly shot..... odd but it was talked about long ago on tv. If a gun is unable to hold a good group in the center of a 9” area at 100 yds, it’s not likely it’s going to be deadly on a moving target. Of course many have different descriptions of a good group. When reloading, I like to see 3 to 5 shot groups in a .50 cent piece, then really start closing it up. I’ve personally killed many rabbits & whistle pigs over the years, mainly to see how a certain bullet from a new load would react. (And they were in the garden too.) Very unusual to see the target move towards the gun on impact, that was brought up in a documentary as well on jfk long ago, I watched it personally. Really makes one wonder if Oswald was simply used as a scapegoat..... ?

Every guard shack has inside an ammocase with lock. Let them know what you have, show your permit, and they will secure your weapon and return when you depart.

You familiar with a sibling gourd? They don’t get very big. Dad and I use to set them across a 2x4 setting on 2, 5 gallon buckets. You could place quite a few across a 8’ board. Like pool, we had to call our shots, and you couldn’t hit the board. In those days I was shooting a Mauser 98 chambered in 30-06. It’s favorite load was a 150 gr Nosler hollow point, with 48 grns of IMR 4895 powder.
Dad was shooting a Mauser Sante Fe in 30-06. His gun didn’t like 4895, but loved 3031. It shot better than mine to be honest. It was noted to put 5 rounds down range at 125 yds leaving one ragged hole.

No matter how good of a marksman you are, your chances of a successful shot are reduced when using a slouch of a gun. Oswald being a military man, would most likely chose a better gun, unless someone else supplied the rifle and ammo......?

I don’t forget, I need to get a picture with the 45-70 trap door dad has. It belonged to my great grandfather. It is from the Spanish / American war if memory serves me, I’ll ask dad to be sure. It’s loose in every joint now. You could shake it, and you could call the chickens with it lol.....
