Made a huge impulse buy last week, bought a old western star I used to own 10 years ago back, for way more then I should have. This truck to me is what some muscle cars or old pick ups are to some guys, it’s my dream truck. Wish I never sold it. My dad had 1 similar growing up, and was always after 1. Decided I’m going to most likely overhaul the engine with a friends help, and get all the loose ends tied up, tires, brakes, and run it. It has a 400 3406B Water jacket cooled engine, Brake saver, and Jakes. Spicer 5 speed main and 4 speed auxiliary, factory 280” WB. My goal is spring 2021, hopefully make some money with it, sell my daily driver and have this painted up nice. A western star dealer in PA has been helpful with part numbers. I am looking for a steering shaft, he said this is a western star number 04-9038724, can anyone help me cross this to a after market shaft, as this 1 Had him stumped and couldn’t find any info for me. Also if anyone has rebushed a Neway ARD 238-6 Air ride lately please share your advice. Thanks! Here’s a Picture

Thats nicely specd. 400B is a solid engine. Lots of retarding HP with jake/retarder. Lots of gears. Must of been a lowbed truck or heavy haul?
Put some taller pipes on it and polish up the aluminum and you got a cool truck!

Put some new shifter knobs in. Dropping off to have motor done in a couple weeks. Then off to a friends to button up all the little odds and ends. Then tires, then hauling freight. Torn on what to do with the neway as bushings are junk and parts are obsolete. Found parts in Canadian, don’t want to spend the coin then they show up and don’t work.

I'd look around for somebody they can fabricate new bushings for that.

If all else fails find an airliner suspension to put on there.

It is a lot of holes to drill, but once you have the airliner on there parts are plentiful and those bushings are inexpensive and very easy to change.

    And it really rides nice.

Sometimes you have to take something that's Obsolete and update it with something newer.

Have you tried Napa/Traction? They carry a lot of suspension bushings.

Bushings are available, I need equalizer beams and 2 transverse beams. ARD 238-6. I think I may try to replace them with a different model neway parts and try and bolt them to the original frame hanger.

    What's wrong with the beams?
