I've worked for Swift just over a year now. Seems some have good experiences there and some don't. IDK, Swift might be the company you are referring to that you left.
That said, I drive reefer and, so far, have had a really good experience with them. I have been lucky that most of the driver leaders I have had (4) have been wonderful to work with and my terminal has been really good to deal with too. I did end up with one driver leader that I didn't get along with very well, but all I had to do was ask for my old driver leader and I was switched back to her.
I am out of the Jurupa Valley terminal in SoCal and run the West region, for personal reasons, I do not wish to go the the Southeast, so they keep me West. That's fine with me as I like the Western routes anyway.
As for truck issues, my first truck was a 2017 Frieghtliner that I was in for about a month. When it developed a crankcase breather problem and truck was going to be in the shop for several days, they offered to let me switch trucks or use a loaner until mine was fixed. I had wanted a Volvo and they had a 2019 available, so I switched to it and have been in it every since. It has been in the shop a couple of times. Volvo are a bit different and it is more common that if it breaks, the shop ends up sending it to a Volvo dealership. Most mechanics work on Freighliners, Kenworths, Internationals. But, not so much Volvos. Once my truck was down for 8 days. But, it coincided with Hometime stuff, so it worked out. Only glitch was my Jeep stays parked at the Phoenix terminal, which is the closest terminal to my home, and I was in Salt Lake City. I just rented a car and drove it home and back from there. From my previous job, I have pretty good loyalty standings with National and it only cost me $118 total to rent a Volkswagon Passat for those 8 days. Another time it went in on a Friday and wasn't done until Monday. At the time spending a few days out of my truck was a good thing as I was due for some time out of my truck. Once again, it oddly worked out. I really like my truck and want to stay in it as long as I can, so I'll accept I may have times when I might be able to switch to a different truck to avoid downtime. So far, the downtime I have had, ended up being convenient to my situation at the time.
Anyway, YMMV, but if Swift wasn't the company you were referring to as having those problems with I'd encourage you to check into them. From what I understand, not all have a good experience with them. But, I definitely have and have not desire to look elsewhere.alds, Speed_Drums, Truckermania and 1 other person Thank this. -
p really good equipment and cycle out old tractors pretty quickly .
When I was there they could have used more trailers though.
I keep in touch with drivers there still ,this last year has been a but up and down but thats to be expected with covid and all.
Dont do the lease purchase for gods sake , not there or anywhere.
Go in with a crappy attitude and you will find reasons to be unhappy.
Stay out of the breakroom same as anywhere.
The money is not great unless you can get on a dedicated , thats what I did.
You make your own luck at navajo , they like to run them that like to run.alds Thanks this. -
