Looking for a decent legal routing that doesn't go through California. Laredo, Texas to Coos Bay, Oregon. Truck doesn't meet emissions standards for California. Pulling a 53 ft reefer and probably going to be around 78k gross. Thanks

The easiest and not too much out of route way would be to from Phoenix up through Vegas to Reno and run 395 out of Reno up to Lakeview OR. There’s only an Ag check to go thru north of Reno and you shouldn’t have much to worry about. Other than that you’d about have to go from Vegas to Winnemucca up to Burns OR and then wind your way back down to Coos Bay. You’re not legal on 140 from the OR border to Adel. And if I had to pick between a little bit of Cali or running 140 over length in OR to Adel I would pick running a little bit of Cali.

I haven’t been out that way in so long, I doubt I could find it, but at one time you could by a permit for non-compliant trucks.

that would be my choice. As a matter of fact, may have done that with a non compliant truck pulling a non compliant 53’ triaxle trailer, on occasion. But did that one in the wee hours. There used to be a commercial enforcement guy that was working out of a pullout between Alturas and Canby on occasion. That was about six years ago, and he was worth avoiding.

Or, go up to 10, head to 17 in Phoenix, take 40 to Vegas, then 93 up to Twin Falls, 84 to Ontario. Then 20 to I-5. It's longer, but main roads and will keep you out of Cali.

I live in Cali, and I see non-compliant and pre-emission trucks and trailers on the road every day. Have yet to see one pulled OOS in a scale house yet. I don't think they have the time to deal with all of the laws the communists in charge throw at them.

The bug check is at the California state line on 395.
Some of northern Cali has an exemption for emissions of some sort.
You would have to look that up on the carb site

    Do it Hollywood style!

Buy some hardware from a Texas gun shop.

Cross the border into Old Mexico guns a blazing.

Take down a drug cartel whilst rescuing a bonita senorita.

Reflect on life's past regrets as you cruise along Mexico 40 to Mazatlan.

Once there, you will meet an old army buddy ex-patriot who turned his life around, is now Mexico's west coast shipping magnate, and who owes you a favor. Then you and your truck will set sail on a container ship to Coos Bay.

Along the way, you decide to pitch a tv show ides to the Hollywood writers guild. Your idea is a about a police detective who plays by his own rules and who is partnered with a Latino or black male who prefers to err on the side of caution.

    Nah, that won't work.
