expired cab card

    Is an expired cab card an out-of-service violation? Is it grounds for impounding a vehicle.

    Virginia DMV is lagging behind in IRP renewals. I just heard about a guy who's been running for three months without a cab card because if he parks the truck to wait for the DMV to come through, he'll lose his truck.

    My cab card expires soon. I know I'm not going to get a renewal in time. If it was only a matter of a summons, I'd risk it.

    Anybody know what the penalty is?

    Go renew it as soon as you can, then if asked provide any proof you applied for the renewal.

    Thanks for the reply, Ridgeline. I did apply for the renewal almost a month ago. I've been waiting. I'm having a permitting agency do the renewal for me, and they tell me that they are having a terrible time with the DMV.

    I'm sure I can get proof that I applied for the renewal. I hadn't thought of that. That should help if I get stopped and asked for my cab card.

    Virginia has issued a waiver that extends vehicle registration expiration dates until Oct. 31st for any -including IRP plates that expired in April-July. Those that expired in March are extended until Sept. 30th.

    I imagine they will extend this waiver again since they have not got caught up yet. Click this link then click MEMO button to download a copy of the official memo directing all IRP jurisdictions to honor the extended expiration dates.

    Thanks, brian, but the memo says credentials that expire on or before July 31. According to the way it reads, it leaves me out. My cab card expires on September 30.

    Nc does it by weight, just recieved a ticket Nevis of expired reg. Not only that, that give you 2 more on top of that. A fine, a warning, and a fix it ticket
