PA does correspond with other states BUT rarely with NJ; some kind border thing....
I had a driver with two NJ points [usual toll when notified from somewhere else] from PA so I knew he really wasn't too nice to the trooper!
He's the only one who collected points.
Most just paid the fine and they went away.....

Every state has different DOT laws and different point systems
-
Once again NY probably taking the cake with one of the worst point systems in country., All corrupt politics.

I can understand PA notifying other states, but FL adding points when the original PA infraction didn't carry any points bugged me.tscottme Thanks this.

In Jersey you are get two points for any out of state moving violation. It doesn’t matter how many if any points the issuing state assessRedtwin Thanks this.

sounds like a Florida problem.....Redtwin Thanks this.

Florida is not the only state that will assign points for out of state violations regardless of what that state did. A driver only has ONE driving record. If I were still driving and got a speeding ticket in Ohio as a Georgia Resident Ohio is going to send that to Georgia. When I moved to Virginia I also transferred my CDL from Georgia to Virginia. I also had to change my POV insurance. The insurance carrier could not find any evidence I had a driving record at first. Then about a week later, the Georgia CDL records hit my Virginia DMV. You can find the actual regulations that set up how the states are required to do this. I just have never cared enough to search for them. If Florida assigns points based on a violation even if the state where it happened don't it's because this process is automatic. I have discovered most of the time when a violation is not assigned points in a state like Florida the other state did not for whatever reason place that information in the CDLIS.Redtwin Thanks this.

Had I known FL would assign points I would have fought the ticket, but having been told it carried no points I figured just pay the fine and get on with life.
Won't make that mistake again. -
Not meaning to morph the topic, this is one reason I don't suffer foolish know it alls in this business for long. In fact, as much as I try to stay quiet sometimes I simply lose it. For years time and time again I see the downside of what happens when a driver listens to one of these people. In your case, it is clearly obvious you got bad information. The only real way to know for sure in these cases is experience (now you know) or to ask the state of Florida.
