More than likely the stateside insurance companies will not insure you do to the difference in traffic laws, roads, and lack of expereince on US highways. Not to mention your age. Ever since (and even before) 9/11/01 the insurance companies have been restricting carriers and o/o more and more every year. Not with just higher premiums, but also with higher standards and qualifications. The best of luck to ya and i hope you do find a company that will insure ya.

That's something I can only hope for. I expect that to be the biggest obstacle of everything I will have to go through.

Getting a green card is going to be very difficult for you unless you happen to get very lucky in the lottery or have family here already. My wife is American and it has still taken me a year to get work authorization.
I have to say as well from driving in Europe and comparing that to the stories i have read here that the level of respect between truckers in Europe is higher than here (just my opinion).
I wish you all the best in your quest. -
But is it that difficult due to the current financial crisis, or has it always been that way? Because well, I have five years to get everything settled. I assume getting all paperwork done in five years is possible, or well, I hope it is. I have heard that it was currently very hard to receive an American green card, but I always blamed the crisis for that.
And else I'll marry a prostitute, the goal justifies the means. -
I just got off the phone with progressive .They told me they offer no product for Flatbed semi over 50miles. Is this for real or did i get a dumb operator?
-
Probably correct. Progressive won't cover scrap (crushed cars), either, which would be carried either on flat beds or in dumps.

There are a million different variables when it comes to insuring your commercial truck. It is always best to ask a lot of questions and find out exactly what they can and can't cover. Each company will be different so make sure you look around and find the best one for your situation.
-
Progressive won't cover anything but dry van freight, as near as I can tell. They told me I would have a 500 mile radius, wouldn't insure anything haz-mat, and wouldn't insure a hopper. At that point, I had to keep looking.
My advice on insurance is to type up your experience resume, look up a few agencies online, and start contacting them for quotes. This is the only way you'll know. Also, are you going to lease-on or become an owner/operator? Alot of lease-on's are self-insured, and it's up to them to take on the risk. -
I'm buying a truck out of state, bobtail back to home, and deadhead to Louisville pulling a flatbed for orientation. The coverage you are describing seems to be just what I need until I'm officially leased on.
Thanks.
