My friend wants to get into trucking but his bank is a small, local bank that is only located in his state. I'm personally with one of the major branches so I don't know. Would he possibly run into problems by making out of state purchases, such as deactivating his account and not making travel notifications?
Does it matter what bank you have if OTR?

Better ask someone that works in that bank.
Travel notifications probably aren't required unless the travel is outside the USA.Sirscrapntruckalot Thanks this. -
Is it a bank or credit union?
If it's a credit union then no problem as he has free access to all the ATM.s in the coop network. Otherwise it depends on how their phone support is. -
Use a Credit Union.

I bank with a small local bank. My debit card is set up with a $1000 daily purchase limit and I have it so that it works anywhere. If I know I will be making a large purchase I’ll call and have them raise the limit for a day.
Roberts450 and Brettj3876 Thank this. -
I too have this problem. The bank recomended that I consider buying a prepaid credit card. You can refill it anywhere in the countrty. If you dont refill it from the banks web page you can call them. They will ask some personal questions. Once they can verify its you they will refill the card for what ever amount. You can also call accounting and get them to list the card on your account. You are safer if you dont use a debit card. As the debit card is a direct link to your account.Brettj3876 Thanks this.

NO! Makes no difference in state or out of state. I have used debit cards for years from California to NY with not a problem. Stop worrying!buddyd157 Thanks this.

We use a small local bank for everything and until we gave em travel notice our cards would get shut off. Really just depends on the banktscottme, lovesthedrive and Roberts450 Thank this.

I won't doubt your word. I have never heard of a debit card being "shut off" like that. In fact, most cards are on one of the various networks. In fact if my bank ever cut my debit card off, as soon as I got home I would be changing banks.

Pin based most likely not. Visa/MC transactions are the triggersLong FLD and Brettj3876 Thank this.

Why not just use a credit card and pay it off ?
Dockbumper, lovesthedrive, JonJon78 and 2 others Thank this.
