I was thinking recently about how I should get into trucking in the future. I’ve always wanted to drive but I’m currently in my 3rd year of college applying to med school, and I don’t see any point in the future where I will actually be able to drive for a living.
A thought that came to me was, when I’m older, to buy a truck and trailer that I would use like a sportscar. My plan would be to go out for 2-3 weeks at a time a few times during the year(maybe during Christmas/Memorial Day weekend or any other holidays) and deliver loads from place to place. Financially it’s stupid since the money I make from trucking won’t be enough to pay off the truck, but I plan to support the truck from the money I make from my actual job. I asked my father(who drove for 3 years and owned his own trucking company for 12 years), and he said that it’s a dumb idea. Then again, my dad has always hated the idea of me involving myself with trucks lol, and he had always pushed me away from it.
Let me know what you guys think.

Years ago a friend of mine did not want to be a doctor. His father, a doctor, pushed him from an early age to be a doctor. While in med school he killed himself. Do what you want to do, not what your family wants you to do.
`
My sister is a doctor and perfectly content staying close to her zip code.
Me, I've been to 32 foreign countries and been a long haul trucker for years. Still feel like I've shortchanged myself by not having enough variety in my life. As soon as this COVID-19 vaccine is available, already have my suitcases packed for a few months vacation overseas.
Yes, suitcases packed and secured and weighed for proper weight for flying. Just waiting on the vaccine and me and family are out of here for a few months.
If I'd listened to my family, I'd be a friggin' school teacher or a dentist. In my mind, that's a horrible way to waste a life we only get one time.Last edited: Oct 5, 2020

you dad is right to keep you on another path, my kids can run my company but I told them always do something else with your lives because you won’t be missing a thing in this business especially with a hazy future.
