Juries that give out these huge obscene awards are not to smart. It all comes back to cost consumers more for everything we buy. This is a major reason that owner ops and small and medium size trucking companies will have a hard time staying in business because of super high Insurance premiums, and only the megas will survive.
-
no need for such a high payout.
i think to as @rachi mentions, that the insurance will be so darned sky high, only the big will survive.
sooner or later, the smaller outfits will fade away.LtlAnonymous, rachi and mjd4277 Thank this. -
Take a look at what’s going on in Louisiana with those staged accident scams-their insurance premiums are thru the roof!! It’s bad enough some drivers aren’t crazy about running Florida because of little freight, but when you factor in skyrocketing insurance costs, it starts coming down to not being worth picking up/delivering in the state if one has to worry about getting into an accident and having an ambulance chasing lawyer getting a massive payout verdict!Last edited: Oct 6, 2020

This is where the judge will step in and say it's time to get real fellas. Let's agree to a number, or let's have a mistrial and start all over. There will be a settlement, and it won't be 411 million dollars.

They could have made it $1 billion and the injured rider would get the same amount. SMH

I wonder if they were set up as an LLC or sole propriety.

Yeah, but the lawyers always go high knowing they will probably get a hundred million.
-
Hmmmm I wonder if it amounted to that number because the victim was a veteran....just thinking. Anyway, 411 million is way to extreme. That's impossible to pay back. He is a one truck operation and got stuck with 411 million. Werner is a mega and got slapped with 90 million. This what happens when you let common, unrealistic, angry at the world people on the jury. People don't even make 411 million in a lifetime(s).
