I would run from primes flatbed division and that is the facts...

 

See, this is exactly why U2 has left the board. How does your post offer anything to people reading this thread and looking into Prime? It doesn't, and that's a fact.

I know next to nothing about the flatbed side of Prime, as I'm in the reefer division. I've only spoken with a couple flatbedders, and we didn't "talk shop" at all.

Have you worked for Prime? If so, maybe you could let the readers know exactly why flatbedding with Prime is a bad idea. No miles (with numbers)? Specific customers? The area of the country they run (what area)? The type of freight hauled? Bad equipment? Poor policies (what specific policies)? Or did you hear from your friends cousins wifes brother that they suck? Your post says nothing constructive. If somebody is looking to get their start in flatbedding, why specifically should they stray away from Prime?

Prime very well could be the worst company to go with on the flatbed side....I don't know. But if you offer up some actual real facts (other than "I would run from Primes flatbed division"), it would be much more helpful to anyone actually looking into going with Prime for flatbedding.

 

Actually, NoTarps did work for Prime, and got a recycled machine that wasn't in too good shape. Came on at the seasonal low for the flatbed side, and kinda judged the whole company from that. He figures he got a raw deal.

I came on about the same time, and ended up with an '06 Shaker to start, but knew it was going back within 90 days. That's when Freightliner had that shutdown for the holidays that was extended at the end of '07; company had a real problem finding enough tractors to keep everyone running for a few weeks.

So give NoTarps a break. We've gone over this.

 

You want info... then search my posts about them when I was there. While your at it get your info straight.... U2's leaving has nothing to do with me. I have even said on here that I respect U 2's input even tho I think prime is ate up. They are the worst OTR co I ever been with... I don't owe you or anybody an explanation on here. You think I am not helping by saying I would run from their flatside? Well, let me be a little more clear... RUN they are one jacked up outfit... Is that better??? Now go put your opinions where they will be useful.... You feel like a *** now that you know I worked there????

 

No, I don't feel like an ###, because you completely missed the point of my post.

People read on nearly every thread of any major company that "company XYZ sucks." They will take your post and totally disregard it like all of the others. However, if you stated "Prime is the worst OTR company I've ever been with because....." then actually explain, THAT would be useful! It's not that you owe me or anyone else an explination, but I come to forums to get first hand accounts about various topics.

Aparently you've already gone into detail about your experience at Prime, so I guess people will just have to search through your posts everytime you state Prime, or any other company sucks, to find out why. And I will search through your posts to see what you had to say. I'm genuinely interested.

I'm sorry you had such a bad experience at Prime, and I hope you're happy with whoever you are with now. I truly mean that.

I'm not going to get into a pissing match with you, so I'll give you the last word if you want it.

Don't you ever wonder why Prime has left a bad taste in so many people's mouths? Don't you ever wonder why there are no Prime threads in the "Report your favorite trucking company" site on this forum? I respect everyone's right to their opinion and I do think the knowledgeable Prime guys on here are just that, knowledgeable. But think about it, there are maybe 3 or 4 posters who never say anything bad about Prime and the majority of everyone else has got something bad to say. I wish things had been different there. I wanted it to work. It didn't. No, it was not the best time to go for a lease but when there was no money on the company side and the powers that be at Prime made the lease out to be so lucrative, we decided to try a one year lease on an older truck. They should be ashamed of themselves for continually deceiving drivers into a false sense of security and signing on as a lease operator when they know full well that this is not the time and the rates are shot right now. Why don't they back off pushing the lease so hard and take care of the guys/gals they got? Because they are greedy, as are many big companies. Go ahead and tear me up one side and down the other but if I get the pleasure of reading your opinions then guess I will have my say too. If you can make it work at Prime as a lease driver or company driver then my hat is off to you and I mean that. Fact is, the majority don't. Oh and remember on the thread I started about our experience with Success Leasing? Remember how they had a guy moving in Bill's truck before he was even moved out? He got a bill for cleaning the truck out when it was never done and the new guy had a pm done on the truck (it was not due so I'm not clear as to why they did it) and they sent us the bill for that too. He is officially over 2000.00 in the hole with Prime with his last paycheck the first week in July. You can toot Prime's horn all ya want and that is fine with me but you have to be prepared to hear the other side of the story, the not-so-sugar coated version that exposes them for what they are.

 

First, I'm not trying to downplay the fact you and Bill had a bad experience....

There are plenty of positive posters on this forum concerning Prime. There are also plenty of drivers I talk to on a daily basis who like being associated with Prime and are doing well both as company and lease drivers.

Posts representing those postive experiences are in this folder - none of us have gone over to the "favorite trucking company" folder, simply because we've been posting in here.

There's things I don't like about Prime, but the fact is that my experience with the company has been postive. Can't say I like the change in maintenance policy that has been made in the past few weeks. I think that you're characterization of "everyone else has something bad to say," is unfair, and a rationalization of your own bad experience.

I wasn't in your orientation group, but that's not the way they made it out at that time. When rates are good, you can make quite a bit more money as a lease operator than a company driver can - this is true. At that time, no one could predict what happened over the past year or two - so a lot of folks got caught in the economic mess. And a lot of folks make it out that it's all Prime's fault. Uh huh..

I also recall that they said there was quite a bit of risk involved with the lease deal, as compared with the security of a paycheck as a company driver - and it's a trade-off. So it's not like someone didn't add a disclaimer and say that it may not be all roses.

When was the last time you bought a used car? Remember when he told you it would run a million miles and never break down... remember that? Did you buy that line too? I don't know how you can go into a lease deal with any sort of "a sense of security!"

That is rubbish. There are plenty of L/Os and company drivers who do well at Prime. Not going to go into it with you, but there were plenty of suggestions made to you about your guy, and they were ignored. You don't just jump into this business and expect to make millions.

Did "Bill" take this up with his FM?? Or payroll?? The charges were made to the truck, and he should have made an issue about it.

 

Guess we will just have to agree to disagree when it comes to Prime. I respect your opinions and I am happy you are making it work. BTW how do you know that he did NOT take ACE 2? I never posted either way what happened with that. Got an inside track???

 

A seriously good guess, guided by what happened. You would have let us know if he had, and some of the things you posted really pointed to a lack of what they teach. BTW... rates are doing better, but you would have had to have 3k to 5k socked away to have made it. Good luck to both of you.

 

I came back to defend Notarps.... we've been online buddies for a quite a while now. I really do think he had a bum time at Prime.
