It has been awhile since I've registered a trailer, but it seems to me that it was only like $100 for a permanent/non expiring tag. I don't always remember numbers on the smaller items such as this. It's not like buying a base plate for a truck. That is a MUCH larger number and tends to leave a mark in your mind.lol

many of the companies who do power only will have their own transporter tags to put on it

For a permanent tag here in Iowa, it cost me $35 last week.
Playing devil's advocate here, but if a company is going to use it to haul a load towards your direction, I would ASSUME (don't know for sure) that they'd want it to have a current annual inspection tag on it.
I'm just trying to think of every variable so there's no surprises for you as you pursue this. -

OK, a little update. I found a company that I can lease onto as long as I have a DOT certified tractor and trailer. Pay is 85% of the line haul. They tell me all I need is a 48 state tag, and 2290. They will take care of the rest, and I would be operating under their authority. As far as freight prices go, reefer is booking between $1.35 - $1.65 a mile, dry van is $1.15 - $1.55. Average miles for current drivers are 3200 mi plus a week. After percentage, a truck could gross about $161,000. Thats assuming 3200 mi a week at $1.15 a mi, taking one week off a month. But also have to factor in the cost of fuel at the end of each week. As far as fuel goes, they give me a fuel card that I can use to load up that comes directly out of the week's settlement. They file IFTA for me at the end of each quarter and that also comes out of the settlement. They have a pretty good safety record. So, once I get my tractor, do theys guys look like a good co. to lease on with?
