Not the California you and many other think of.
In the north it's more regular folks and not the snooty city scum. I go hunting in places here where I won't see anybody else for days, and the same goes for fishing. I can drive 10 minutes from my house, hop in my boat, and be outside of the Golden Gate bridge in 30 minutes fishing for salmon, rock cod, tuna, or crabs. Or just drive 15 minutes in my boat and catch stripers, halibut and sturgeon in the bay. I can drive 3 hours and go snow skiing in the winter, summer camping on Lake Tahoe, or drive a few more hours and camp in the desert riding ATV's. More than half of the biggest largemouth bass ever caught were right here in California. I hunt for deer, elk, pigs, pheasant, quail and dove, all within 2 hours of my house.
Yes, the state government is screwing up the state big time. But I can put up with a lot of crap to live here, and have for over 40 years. Did I mention I've never needed to chain up my KW T680 since I bought it 2 years ago? Can you say that about driving in Montana?
What if it Snows?

Most people are not aware of what the state is like north of the greater Sacramento region.dwells40, LoSt_AgAiN, InTooDeep and 4 others Thank this.

You all are chatting about the reasons I moved up this way.
Usually doesn't freeze too hard, Very few days into the 90s in the summer. Half way between 2 versions of Urban Decay (Seattle and Portland) But just over an hour to either of those, the beach, or Skiing on White Pass.
Affordability aint too bad yet....
Drop in an RV and get a well drilled for a few till you figure out the house.

Totally different from Southern Cal. When you get up to the Emerald Triangle...my part of the state... it gets completely different.dwells40, LoSt_AgAiN, D.Tibbitt and 5 others Thank this.

Sssshhhhhhh! If people find out just how good some parts of this state are they'll be wanting to live here.
We're encouraging people to leave California, not move here.

They just know what they see from I-5, and that's not really what NorCal has to offer. If you really want to see how nice NorCal can be, try taking the 101 or Hwy 1 (in a 4 wheeler) from San Francisco all the way to the Oregon border. The Pacific Ocean and endless miles of redwood forests is the California I know and love. Not all of the crap you see on the news.austinmike, dwells40, tommymonza and 5 others Thank this.

It will never happen. Still too expensive for most drivers to afford, and too far off the beaten path to drive a truck from up there for OTR work. For the most part, all of the people we want to leave are leaving. Trouble is, all of the ones we don't want like the homeless and illegals are still pouring in. Next year the state will be broke, and I'm afraid they're going to jack up our taxes on everything to help cover the losses. As much as I love it here, I'm still leaving as soon as my parents pass on. The Oregon coast is the next best thing.LoSt_AgAiN, Dale thompson and lovesthedrive Thank this.

Brookings is good for now but I think 95% of their population are retired Californians and you know what that means. Californians moving to Brookings have created their own cliche.
Coos Bay is pretty decent but if I had my choice I'd take Reedsport or Florence.LoSt_AgAiN, Dale thompson, InTooDeep and 3 others Thank this.
