Don't report any ticket until it's been resolved in traffic court.

 

Get a traffic lawyer to handle it for you. Fight it and maybe get it reduced.
If you can't do that, then you'll just have to pay it off.

 

cop showed up, a report was made.

it's on your DMV record for x number of years.

ticket is questionable, meaning just the accident alone is on your record.

if i were you, i'd be prepared for a letter from thier lawyer, to sue you for personal injuries. damage to thier car, loss of work hours, you know, the whole nine yards.

your boss/company may question if you back up your truck not seeing things behind you.

 

It was his vehicle while not on company time. Wasnt even in a CMV

 

yes, i understand. but it is still on his DMV. once a year, he has to fill out a form of ANY tickets/accidents, if i recall.

then any new job he applies for, he must make note of ANY accidents. then comes the questioning about backing up and "not seeing" a car/vehicle thru a wide open rear window? over say a sleeper?

frankly, how can anyone miss not seeing the reflection of your back up lights/brake lights, on the other car?

Ugh, that's too bad OP, I'm sorry to hear that. I hope everything works out good for you in the end. We all make mistakes, and luckily nobody was hurt so that's the important thing. Hopefully companies will be able to see that you're a good driver and overlook this incident. I can't really give you advice as I've never been in the situation since I got my CDL.

I do want to ask though - What was the speed limit where you got a 5 MPH over speeding ticket? Anything with the speed limit of 25 MPH or over I'm usually in between 3-5 MPH over the limit, unless it's a work zone but even then it's not uncommon to get 3-5MPH over that limit for a few seconds if I'm going down a hill and heavy.

Not being rude to cops, I support the police, but #### what a jerk to give you a ticket for going 5 MPH over the speed limit. I would think a traffic lawyer could get such a miniscule speeding ticket dropped to something besides speeding.
