I had a driver get harassed pretty good by the scale house yesterday. They pulled him around back and crawled all over and under the truck. Hit him with a citation for no paper log book as a back up for the ELD. Then, an out of service because there was a bolt in the trailer tire. Lastly, they broke the seal on a refrigerated medical load and rummaged through the entire trailer looking for God knows what.
Wouldn’t it have been easier to say driver, you need a paper log, I want you to head up to the truck stop and get one, and oh, hate to break the bad news but I noticed a bolt in one of the trailer tires. Otherwise, way to keep a clean and well operating truck.
Now a small fleet with a perfect record over the last two years, gets dinged because they couldn’t find anything of significance. We work very hard to have everything on point. It’s just disappointing is all.Brettj3876, tommymonza, TallJoe and 8 others Thank this. -

The real pisser also was having to call out road service to plug the tire while simultaneously having the load rummaged through. To top it off, the driver didn’t get back home until this morning instead of yesterday.PPDCT and Accidental Trucker Thank this. -
Oh, the things us MC members have to put up with. Had our driver come back from BC with a load of fish food for the farm. Want to have a great, enjoyable, impressive experience of our Government and your tax dollars at work? Be sure to not expect it at USDA customs department..... After sitting around waiting for someone to do something with some paperwork for an hour, or two, the esteemed USDA officer decides it's not worth looking at and tosses the paperwork at the driver, telling him to get out of there. Uhhhmmmm, could you not have done that two and a half hours ago?
Then he gets pulled into Bow Hill, and gets to educate the newbie state guy about Ag Exempt HOS on farm supplies within 150 miles of the distributor. The dude had never heard of such a thing. Had to show him the FMCSA guidance. Fortunately, it has pictures.....
Good thing us MC members pay lots of taxes so our employees can have these valuable learning experiences.....PPDCT, Midwest Trucker, SteveScott and 3 others Thank this. -

When a friend of mine would get inspected at a scale, they would always find something. He was getting some points for it.
The last inspection he told me about was going well.
It was just about done.
And then the officer dinged him for the location of his scale transponder on the windshield.
I remember another guy a few years ago had electronic logs. I thought that should help you avoid getting a violation .
He got inspected.
He got dinged for no manual for the eld.D.Tibbitt, PPDCT and Midwest Trucker Thank this. -
