The mountain isn’t what she once was. I miss the days of running the old red and white Bettendorf/ Costsa T800 down the old buckhorn. The money was small, but the hours were fun.REO6205 Thanks this.

Yup, Buckhorn was a challenge then. Not so much now.
I spent a summer when I was a kid pulling a load a day of green 4x4s from Hoopa to Corning. LOL..it took all day, too.Rugerfan Thanks this. -
I’d give anything to go back to those days

When you have to chain the steer axle to get to the main line haul road.
REO6205 Thanks this. -
I would too...until I realize I'd have to give up air conditioning, power steering, air ride, tubeless tires, and decent horsepower.
I'd have to tie down with cables, run a big power 262 Cummins, change my own flats by hand, stuff cotton in my ears so they didn't ring, unload myself and deck my trailer every night, and get by on very little sleep.
Yeah, I miss those days...but not enough to want to live through them again.
We did have some fun you'd never get away with today...like when they first opened 5 south of Weed and if we had a green load we'd race going down Dunsmuir canyon. We'd stop at Shotgun creek for a beer (yeah, you could get away with that in those days) and the last guy in had to buy the beers.Speed_Drums and Rugerfan Thank this. -

Yup, We still have to do that sometimes It's not so bad in the snow but I hate having to do it in the mud.. Our mechanic built little metal shields under the front fenders to protect the turn signal and headlight wiring. Otherwise the mud and gravel would wipe everything outokiedokie Thanks this.

I can do without power steering, air ride cab, air suspensions and tubeless tires. I can even handle two sticks on top of all that.
But as an official fat man I need my AC.
kemosabi49, okiedokie, Rugerfan and 1 other person Thank this.
