Was talking to my cousin the other day, who back in March, changed from one mega carrier (that I'll choose not to name for his privacy), to a moderate sized carrier (that I'll also not name) that I've seen plenty of around but never thought much about... for a couple reasons. One, they're based in a part of the country that I'm not crazy about driving in, especially during the cold months, and everybody that's done OTR knows you can always expect to wind up in your carrier's home turf once or twice a month, give or take, depending on other factors. Two, they're a reefer carrier. I've done plenty of reefer in my years of driving, though mostly dry van; I don't mind reefer, sometimes it's just as good or better (all parts of my experiences considered), but for the most part, those are the exceptions, and I usually simply prefer dry. Anyway, don't mean to get off track too much.
So I ask him how the new job is going. He's got a few nice perks similar to my current job, such as the freedom to fuel at any major stops he chooses to go to, and the ability to choose his own route. Then he tells me he's also on a flat rate salary of $65k, even gets paid on his time off since he makes the same paycheck every week, also still gets fuel and safety bonuses, paid vacation every year, etc. I asked him a lot more, and he told me plenty. He asks me if I'm interested in coming on board, not trying to recruit me for a bonus like how we all know we all do at times, but mind you, this is my cousin, so just family trying to help family. I tell him I'm not gonna lie, that I'm sure as hell interested, but want to think on it a bit longer and do some further homework, and also wouldn't be even thinking about making a switch until after I survive the holidays anyway lol.
But it got me to thinking though. I wonder if I asked around, how many dry van carriers that pay a flat rate salary that I could find? Or even other reefer carriers too, I suppose. I know there's always this company or that I've heard of here or there. There was a point when I used to call recruiting and inquire with just about every company I saw on the road that got my interest, which was A LOT of companies I'm talking about. But for the most part, these searches usually didn't wind up yielding much, and even less or pretty much zilch in terms of the ones that offered a salary. I could only imagine the hysterical laughing I would've heard, had I ever asked for it as an alternative pay option. I've never done tank or flatbed, as I've just never felt it would be for me. Dropped my doub/trip endorsement years ago, kept the tank and hm ends. for obvious reasons. But if there's any of those carriers or other types of freight haulers I didn't mention, that pay flat rate salaries you'd like to also mention for other people on here, feel free. Thanks!

Great Plains out North Dakota. I drove for their sister company down the street (Holland) and was always on I-80,I-90,I-94 in the winter months . We were usually given direction to avoid I-70 west of Denver though

I drove for GP for 20 months and loved it. Had to leave due to medical reasons tho. If I were going back OTR, I'm almost positive it would be with them. Their 2000+ mile runs were the bee's knees. Rarely had to run deep into the night, due to having 3-5 days to get the freight delivered. I'm also anxious to see how their salary plan holds up.

Mmmmm...65k flat rate? I dont know if that's a serious upgrade from mileage. Even on mileage, 65k is doable if you have experience. The guarantees probably has catch. I remember a former driver for K&B told me that X amount of minimum miles had to be ran to get that guaranteed $1250 weekly they advertise
