I’m a recent grad and recently in Cali on i -10 on a steep upgrade i was In 10th gear and it lost power on me and turned off in the middle of the dang mountain. I panicked because i was In third lane over.
What is the proper gear going up, I’m suppose to be in before going uphill with a load? Or am i suppose to be shifting up on an incline Vs staying in gear beforehand?
i have a 10 speed freight liner cascadia
TIA !
Uphill gear

You are not likely going to be able to stay in one gear as you climb. You're going to have to shift to a lower gear. Watch your tachometer (RPM gauge). Shift to a lower gear when it gets to 1200 (you may not even want to wait until it gets that low). It sounds like you "choked it out" (the RPMs fell to 800 or less and you stalled the truck).

The question is if it died for some unrelated (eg. electrical) issue, or did you kill it with low rpm. If it’s the latter, there might be more problems with this engine coming soon.

Lol, you were in the left lane and choked out your truck on a grade...clueless..
Luckily for you no one rear ended you and died..you’d be posting from prison right now.
What gear do you put it in “before” a steep climb?
Seriously, if you don’t know how to climb a hill please get off the road. Surely you haven’t a clue how to go down either. -
Steep grade on I-10 in Cali ????!! Where ?

I-10 east of Indio towards Blythe, east of Redlands and east of rest stop at Whitewater. I smell a troll.

The proper gear is simply one that will keep your truck around peak torque.. around 1200 rpms or so.. you get in the right lane and start up.. as the rpms fall off to 1200.. downshift to the next lower gear, continue doing so until you are at the top of the grade.. I'm sure you had to cover this on the skills test let alone in training.
