Last month I lost a filling and the tooth that it came from broke. So I call the dentist, as I was in pain. They were unable to get me in so, they suggested I go to the Er. I go there and they give me a scrip for penicillin and some pain meds.. They told me to see the dentist in a couple of days. Well the father in-law died the next day so with his death the funeral and stuff I never got a chance to go..
Every thing was fine up until a couple of days ago, the pain came back and finally got to go to the dentist. They gave me another script for a different antibiotic called Cephalexin, then said it would be a month before the can pull the tooth.. Here I'm in pain and have to wait a month.. Boy what a few days it has been since seeing them.. Well yesterday I'm in so much pain my sister in-law goes to the drug store and picks me up this paste that goes in the tooth to cover the hole, and to help keep the air out.. Then my wife calls back my dentist to see if they can at least give me a shot to numb up the pain, they say no.. So my sister in law calls her dentist and they say sure, there is no reason why he should have to be in that much pain and half to wait a month to have that tooth pulled.. Well I go and by the time I get there the pain had subsided and I no longer needed a shot... So we decided to get the tooth pulled on friday the 9th. Now here is the good part, my dentist is in our insurance, net work and I have to pay $145.40 out of my pocket to get this tooth pulled. The dentist I'm going to use is out of net work, so you figure it would cost a whole lot more. Well it is cheaper and is only going to cost me $40 of pocket. What a scam so dentist or doctors in general can be..

You know, you never hear anything about dentists in this new health care bill. They rip you off as bad as doctors and hospitals. A month before he could pull it? That's crazy. I would get me a bottle of Jack Daniels and a pair of pliers before I would wait a month with a toothache.

That's why I found a different dentist who will do it tomorrow, and $105.40 cheaper. Pretty sad when a in network dentist wanted $145.40 and this one who is out of network will do it for $40. Personally I think the other doctor raised the price, because he knows the insurance company would not pay him what he really wants.. I did try a screw driver as it hurt so bad, but I couldn't do it.. Besides one side is broken so pliers would not work.. I will just be happy when it finally comes out..

Oh hell yeh !!!
I've been caught in this scam too.
But I actually met an HONEST Dentist. They quoted me a price over the phone. Than after realizing I was paying cash, knocked over 50% off the price.
But last week, I met the sleaziest SOB ever. Living right here in my hometown. Upper Dentures his office....are higher than a complete set (upper and lower) of implants at my regular dentist. -
Finally got it out at noon, thank heaven for that.. I got up at 5am in pain, not even meds would help.. It took them a hr to get it out as they wanted to make sure I was comfortable.. Only pain I had is when he actually had to give me a shot right in the tooth.. For all the work he did including grinding away some of the tooth it cost a total of $41.80. No I still will take the antibiotics to keep any infection away and pain meds just until the soreness from working on my tooth goes away....
Your right danc there a lot of doctors who will try a screw you and the insurance companies to make the bigger dollar, and that is real sad, especially when times are tough.. This doctor will even let you pay a little at a time, if you do not have all the money up front when they do work on your teeth.. The would rather wait a little longer to get paid, then to loose a customer.
