Pick something...anything. Seriously.

Your credit history

Your employment history

Your age...yes it's true.

Your criminal history

Your medical history

Anything negative a former employer might have to add.

How much do you expect to earn?

Where you live.

Do you have family? IE Wife and kids.

Hell tomorrow they may want to know your underwear size.

 

if you went to a truck stop and looked at the average trucker, it would be hard to believe, wouldn't it?

 

I think with the lack of trucking jobs and thousands of new wanna-be drivers (myself included) companies realize they can screen through multiple applications and pick out "the best" of the pile, hence what seems to be dozens of loops one must jump through and companies know this. Maybe a year or two ago, when drivers were in high demand, the requirements and "picky-ness" might have been less.

 

They are looking thru HUNDREDS of applications.
If it is a good company they will be looking at hundreds of applications for 1 opening. This being with the better known local to regional company's.
I remember an opening in the paper several years ago for a local pepsi delivery driver.
They said in the add CDL preferred but not necessary. They would train a good candidate if needed.
Remember this was several years ago. For 1 opening.
They had over 500 people apply.
So you look at the Truckload and LTL carriers with good reputations here. Yes, there are some.
The best ones are known. They will have the most people applying for a limited number of openings. All will be qualified.
So to help sort thru the 200 extra applications for each position they will use any other method they can. Probably including how neat your handwriting is lol.

I am pretty lol
Though I need to get back to work loosing some weight. 4 months at home I have gained 35 lbs, so I am not looking as good as before.
And yes, I am kidding on the pretty part lol.
All I can say is that while I am big, I am not morbidly obese. My truck does not lean to the left 3 feet every time I get in.
I shower regularly. I wear clean clothing, and I do not wear sweat pants and flip flops around...heck anywhere.
Dressing like a professional and being presentable are good things.
So are little things like holding the door at the truck stop for the next person coming. Using words like Sir or Mame matter as well. Be polite and respectful to anyone you meet. These things help. Sure, if someone is disrespectful to me they should expect me to be the same in return, but I will try to be polite from the get go to start out right.
