Anyone have first hand experience running the air dog fuel system. I'm always looking at performance gains, but I don't seem to see how a lift pump provides more HP? Or would do a better job than the Davco from OEM engineers. Only interested in power gains. I run local not OTR.
Their sites claim to idle smoother, well I need to run my truck, not idle it. So far, I can mostly see people running it on their older engines, and not on modern volvo diesels. Do you have one and maybe even had it dynod afterwards? Noticed any power gains?

I cant see how a low pressure electric pump is going to give you more power as the injectors will only provide "X" amount of fuel based on programing and air into the engine. Yes if the mechanical pump doesnt have to work as hard to deliver fuel you might see a 1/10 increase.
You want power? Bigger turbo, bigger injectors, bigger cam, bigger exhaust and timing to match....or.....bigger motor.
Sadly it all cost big $$ and in the end, unless the whole drivetrain is built for it you'll just break parts.
The system your talking about will probably help with starts and idle as the fuel system will have optimum pressure. -
FYI
Spoke to three Volvo shop managers in our area. For $1500t his will only pressurize the fuel system, and mask any issues you run into with injectors. sticking to the $20 fuel water separator and running it . -
I'm happy with my air dog unit. Been running for 2 months now on my D16.
Join the "Volvo truck masters" group on Facebook and you'll learn all you need to know.... lots of great reviews and experiences -
Better throttle response, consistant and smooth as silk power delivery, and definitely a little more power. Too hard to tell how much fuel I'm saving since we're changing seasons and fresh winter rubber etc. If I had an 18 speed under me there are a handful of spots in my region I would be half a gear quicker.
My truck is happy and I'm confident it will pay for itself in 1 year. -
I passed that information from the masters over to our shop and two other local dealers.
They all agreed, it will only mask injector issues.
Lift pumps also have no control on how much fuel is being delivered to the actual injector.
i also wanted to get it, but when more than one Volvo tech says I’ll just be wasting money, then I’ll be saving it for real upgrades.
