Cypher: Mount the thing on the DRIVERS side! That Wilson is sold in the truck stops also but it's a tree grabber! You can take your moden into the store and figure out which attachment you need. Wilson also sells an amplifier used to be $500. but down from that now and you don't need to attach to your card or cell. I had one of the antennas but after a week I never really saw any use for it as it didn't increase my signal levels at all. IMHO it's a waste of money and got a refund!

did you try the debug menu and try to mess with the settings to increase your speed?
(i've been researching haha) -
Yep. Sprint has limited settings on their modems and for the cell noting! The best bet is the amplifier which is now down to less than $300. The good thing about it is you won't wear your batteries out looking for signal. And it'll help on power also on the blue tooth side if I understand the info with it.
I HAVE to use Sprint as all the other services here at home have a low signal at the house. With AT&T my wife actually had to sit in the living room in front of the french doors to talk! -
Is it quick or dial-up speeds? I have a laptop with internal wifi card and looking for the best option, I have sprint wireless but I have max lines in use already so they will not add a line for mobile broadband. Any suggestions?
-
2400 bps dial-up on a crappy line that shorts out all the time.
That doesn't include all the viral infection services available on "free" connections. -
I get a pretty good signal at the TA stops. J too, but that's probably going to change as Pilot takes over.
-
I have found that the mom and pop truck stops are usually the ones that offer free service. I'm finding more and more of them that have set it up. It'd be nice if someone could compile a list. Oh, and if you are a truck stop owner, free wi-fi is something I remember when I do my trip planning and will bring me back repeatedly.
As far as the pay services, I've had nothing but bad experiences with Pilot, and Flying J has ridiculously low data caps, especially if you purchase the 24 hour plan. The Pilots that are run by Bosselman's are free, and pretty fast. The best pay service in my opinion, is IdleAir. You don't have to be parked at an IdleAir thing to use it, just anywhere in the parking lot. It's real fast. If I'm laid over and taking a 34 hour restart, I don't mind shelling out the $4.95 for that. -
I've been using a tethered Iphone and it works great. No extra charge above my regular $100.00 per month unlimited plan. I do have to be careful to stay below the 5G max.
-
Yeah, I was told I was grandfathered in under the unlimited plan since I was a valued customer till AUG when Sprint pulled a Kerry and flip flopped and told me I was now limited to 5GB. I promptly cancelled and now I have Verizon and couldn't be happier except for the 5GB limit. BTW, I've called Verizon CS 3times and never sat on hold longer than 5min and always talked to someone whose native language was ENGLISH. Nice change from Sprint.
