Alignment ordeal

Well I just spent about 2 hours watching youtube videos on. Now I just to get up the willingness to go out on the 100+ degree lot the truck is in to check it

 

Be there just before daylight. Then go hard. Lots of insects and flies do not even start to show up until about sunrise.

I did. Actually watched a lot of his different videos on it. Took some notes on what to look for. Definitely going to get Quik Align to set everything once I get my trailer bushings done.

 

It's extremely common to have to camber a steer axle. I just had my trailer axles cambered as well. Had never heard of that being done on trailer axles but I 100% trust the shop that did it

 

I wouldn’t let anyone ever bend my axle. It’s not needed. Your main adjustments are on your drive axles. Your steer axle is the least dominant of the three when it comes to proper alignment.

 

I'm curious why the strong stance on not letting your axle be bent? Especially on a steer axle, if camber is off the steer tires are going to wear premature no?

I’m just reading you post, My international 3800 with rear air bags is sitting lower on the passenger side, way lower. The outer wheel well is only about and inch r so from rubbing the tire. The other side looks to be about 4-5 inches. Not sure if that is the problem you had but if so could you explain more the fix that you did?

I didn’t see this until now. Short answer is that I believe in and have had the best tire wear in all positions since I started using shops that use the MD Alignment system, specifically Chad at Alignment Solutions in KC. The 579 I have now was so screwed up when I got it from the previous owner using poor alignment shops. The camber was off on the passenger side of the steer axle and Chad corrected it using only shims. Through the years of watching the tools that MD Alignment partners use you start to see that alignments are fairly simple once the principle is understood and as long as you have a flat piece of concrete, some string and tape, and a tape measure you really could align your truck yourself using the most basic of tools.
