Still, pulling at 1800-1900 isn't harming anything other than maybe burning a little more fuel.
Look at those big industrial gensets. In order to produce a 60 hertz frequency they need to run at 1800 all day long. They'll run loaded up like that for hours with no problems.MACK E-6, D.Tibbitt, Roberts450 and 1 other person Thank this. -
That dd will turn 2300 all day if you let it
D.Tibbitt Thanks this. -
If it can handle the RPM to slow it can handle the RPM to go. There is no difference as the parts are all spinning at the same speeds.

Ever hear a 3000hp 3516 cat start up dead cold when its 35 degrees out and go straight to 1800RPM?? Thats a sound to be heard for sure.

Sorry Robert but no.
Pistons,cranck.....yes.
Camshaft and rockers work differently when the jake is applied. -
The only time my engine has been at 1200 rpms in the last 100k miles is if im changing gears. Otherwise we are running 1500 - 1800 day in day out. Coming from running equipment before i started trucking , if u needed more work out of the engine u cranked up the rpms .
Brettj3876 Thanks this. -
I've never been afraid to walk the juice to a piece of equipment. I don't know why truckers are so terrified of some RPM?Brettj3876 and D.Tibbitt Thank this.

So the camshaft magically disconnects from the timing gears and slows itself when the jakes are applied. GOT IT You guys win. SMH LMAO

If the engine is designed to run at "higher" rpms, then it's no big deal. My buddy's marine diesel cruises at 2,500 rpms, IIRC.
From the conversations I've had with out mechanics and engineers, plus everything I've read, a DD15 engine's max rpm is 1800. Anything over that and you're over reving the engine, which is going to risk damage to the engine and/or the transmission.
