They may end up doing other things first. Like finding out where your head is at. IE You get a load that has 6 hours to the destination. Your driver manager hasnt given you a load after this delivery. This delivery isnt due until two days from now. You still have 8 hours on your clock.
Do you deliver it tomorrow? After all it isnt expected for 48 hours.
Do you deliver it today while you still have time on your clock?
Do you decide to go on a vacation and deliver it two days from now?
Yeah I had a trainer that asked me that. I was like are people really that mental? Of course I deliver it today.
I only met one driver in 2008 that was in a JB Hunt truck that asked me if I was getting loads. The market was imploding at the time. JB Hunt had forgotten about this driver. Seems JB Hunt had parked his sorry tail in a rest area for 2.5 weeks.

You call the receiver, and see if they will take it early. Most will, some won't. If they will, problem solved. If not, time to rethink situation.firemedic2816, rachi, thelushlarry and 5 others Thank this.

The old White Farm equipment warehouse had an inside dock, that they would back flats into. There would be 3-4 on each side of a pit, so they could load farm planters and equipment with a forklift from the floor that was now even with the deck of the trailer..D.Tibbitt, Dale thompson, lovesthedrive and 2 others Thank this.

They also give you home work while you're out on the road.

This is probably be a stupid question and forgive my ignorance, lets say you do deliver it today but what happens if it takes more than 2-3 hours to unload? would you be outta hours to even drive to a truck stop or a rest area? Do delivery stops let you stay overnight?
Dale thompson Thanks this. -
If your unloading. You will be ok as your not driving. Tho usually some one else may be lumping it. Yet if you run out of time, just ask the receiver if you can take your ten on the premises. Otherwise you call your driver manager and tell them you need more time for a "safe harbor". They can alter your clock so you can go 50 miles to a safe spot.Wasted Thyme, Dale thompson and 650cat425 Thank this.

Also depends on the split. If you go off duty the 3 hours are paused on your 14 hour clock. If I remember right.
Cattleman84, thelushlarry, dwells40 and 4 others Thank this. -
No the three hours does not pause your clock.lovesthedrive and 650cat425 Thank this.
