Flatbed is hitting its slow season. Maybe not the best time to get into this. Lots of loads will require tarps this time of year. Would recommend staying with a van right now.
If you own your truck, and want to run team, consider the Schneider choice program. Know people who do very well with that program. -
I think dry van for teams maybe better I guess since the winter season is close. Cheaper too since I don’t need to get the securement for now. Is the Schneider choice program better passing than Landstar? I will check online... so consider that question rhetoric. I appreciate all this advice everyone
-
It does seem though with Schneider that you need your own trainer unlike at Landstar where they lease you a trailer... then again most loads are drop and hook...
What do you think of Stepdeck? Does it have a down turn like flatbed? Worth it? -
Screw the tarps. They don't pay anything extra for you to risk a insurance claim. Anything that needs tarps is just asking for someone to complain about something.
I threw my tarps in the dumpster and haven't missed them in years -
Why would u get an insurance claim for tarping something ? If you arent charging more money for throwing tarps then thats your own problem. I dont work for free and you shouldnt either..
If you are one of those guys that does a half assed tarps jobs and goes down the road looking like a hot air ballon then you deserve whatever freight claim they throw at you. I and many others have tarped in the damndest of weather and run thru many different storms with tarps on, and show up with dry freight at our destination.6wheeler, cke and Espressolane Thank this. -
Broker's don't pay extra for tarps, they'll say "how much can you do it for" but you'll never see it on a confirmation. Not like detention, extra stops, layovers, they expect it to be a free service for you to insure a product that the shipper was too cheap to package for weather.
I can get freight just as easy that pays just as much as tarping that doesn't need tarps.
And tarps are not a 100% all the time. Wait til you get to a receiver that is looking for a reason to get a discount on shipping, there out there.
I also told my insurance company that I do not haul products that needs protection from weather, tarps. I now pay $1200 every 3 months on my policy
