Dockworker stupidity abounds today.

    Yesterday I had two pickups. One was a transmission core, the next was 10 skids of chicken feed.

    As I dug into today’s load I noticed chicken feed on the floor, indicative of one of those skids being poked through the bottom, and oil speckles down the left side of the trailer. Turns out, one of the dock morons somehow got so much transmission fluid on the floor that it leaked down THROUGH the floor and got all over the frame of the tractor.

    As if that wasn’t enough, when I was raising hell to the night supervisor about what happened, one of the dispatchers piped up and said they never even stripped another driver’s trailer. The morning idiots just loaded today’s deliveries behind yesterday’s pickups. :banghead:

    Last week we had a good one. One of the dock guys at the warehouse takes a catnap on his fork truck. No problem as it was break time, except he never set the brake. Fell asleep enough foot slipped off the brake and the fork truck rolled through an open dock door without a trailer...

    I know he went to the hospital, I haven't heard what happened more than that. I'm sure he didn't die as everyone would be talking about it, but more than that...

    Well, this will be my first night working this week so I may hear more tonight.

    It was bad enough that one skid for my last stop today was left right on the back, but it was on the dock last night. :mad:

    Inexcusable.

    The LTL world is above my pay grade, but it almost sounds like the chicken feed dude put a long fork through the transmission core. Lol

    Local LTL drivers deliver and p/u keeping everything sorted. Many days 20+ stops, bring the trailer back to the dock where the goods are unloaded to the dock, retagged, then loaded onto the trailer for the day driver to deliver....day after day. Hence the term cross dock...in one side out the other.

    Some if us do, but they are combo drivers that run straight trucks. They load their trucks plus about a half dozen others before their runs.
