Probably fired and want more training

A huge trucking company can afford it a lot better than I can. There are many times we go above and beyond the call of duty and take care of things for them. Tape up a wire, fix a spring, etc, etc. Saves them hundreds. Putting a scrape on a trailer is tame. Nature of the business. When I worked for Volume you had to wait two hours for detention to even start, and then be there the entire 3rd hour for a huge sum of $12. All because they kept their trailers in a state of disprepair and would never put fresh tires on. So don't lecture me about being fair.

 

LOL... so let's rewrite the job description for truckers... 1. Drive, 2,tape a wire, 3, fix a spring 4. tear up other people's property...
sort of like Mother Theresa... if she burned down a few hospitals in Calcutta.
No wonder the industry is the way it is.

As for equipment being in disrepair... just who the hell is using said equipment on a daily basis.. When I got sent to a shipper and the trailer had three flats on it and wasn't washed out.. I didn't blame the company.. The industry is full of low quality, low character, entitled and selfish ########... its the worst part of the industry...low quality drivers

 

The VAST majority can.. they just need to try and try until the lights come on.. until the lights come on.. you will be lost or very close to it. Things that people suck at, they put off and do anything and everything they can to avoid it. Once it "clicks", you can back anywhere that the truck will fit.. you will even welcome some of the more challenging places. I used to love going to a place that was deemed impossible to far too many drivers. It makes the job at least somewhat entertaining. You just have to become "spatially aware". It is truly the only real pay off for an instructor and or trainer... when you are working with someone who is struggling and that one day when they get it.. its just awesome for them... and us.

 

This is why people practice until it becomes second nature to you. That said, I believe most on here will tell you that there are days their backing isn't perfect. The two things to remember above everything else is that 1. Your setup will make backing SO much easier if you are in the proper position, and 2. Just don't get in a hurry. The slower you go the less you have to chase the trailer. Small corrections work well. Be patient. A 53' trailer doesn't respond like putting a boat in the water. Don't be afraid to pull up and get straight before you get yourself in a real mess. Relax. While you may think people are staring at you and you are embarrassed, it's really not true. No one was born knowing how to back up. If you are attractive I would assume that has more to do with the attention.
