Buy 3 railers and take off one rail and the traction links from it.
Then do it again on the second one and put the two loose rails together and you have a third single and spare cross links for on the road repairs.
I used to buy my cables from White Mountain Chain at Bonners Ferry ID.
I found that if you store them in cheap oil during the summer months they will last 4 or 5 years.
The fiber core in the cables soak up the oil and slowly release it over the winter without making them slippery.Last edited: Oct 29, 2020

Great info sir, i sure do appreciate it
I ordered the cables thru some company in utah . Got 2 sets of 3 rails and a pair of singles. $400 and change. The socks that i bought last year was over 700 for 6 of them.. My first time using cables but it sounds like u had good experience with them...

You called me out earlier because I’m totally the type to just hit the road and drive haha! The only time I really go in depth is when I’m going off the interstate, but can see that being a problem in the snow; HOWEVER young man, I have plenty of MRE’s to keep my ###### well fed, a Coleman stove with 3 propane bottles and a generator! While the unprepared knucklehead is eating his seat cushion, I’ll be dining on filet of back your stomach up/pass a brick mignon and listening to freakin’ Beethoven’s “Silence” while starting a diary entry

Don’t worry. You’re certainly not alone there.

Isn’t that why we do this job?Wasted Thyme, PoleCrusher, singlescrewshaker and 5 others Thank this. -
There is a difference between u and the other guys i was talking about. This will be ur first winter on the road right ? I would not expect u to know to plan ahead in the winter states. I didnt either . I never drove in snow til i got in a truck. U could imagine my first winter and everything i did wrong. I was the guy i was referring to in my first post.. But that is the only way i learn , is by effing up.... Winter time takes more preperation than summer. I usually start my day by looking at road maps , seeing if there is any closures . And the forecast for the day for the area im running to... no matter what dont ever let ur fuel get below half tank.. It is not even about getting stranded , its about when it gets real cold some pumps get froze up and dont work. Power gets knocked out. Next thing u know u cant make the next truckstop with the amount of fuel u have... ask me how i know this... like i said , i learn by experience... when it starts getting under 15 degrees and colder... and ur coming from the south and going north make sure to treat your fuel or ur gonna gel up...like i said .. Ask me how i know.... LolWasted Thyme, Lostkeys, Flint1 and 10 others Thank this.

I got to do a 19 stop peddle plus 2 pickups today in all the rain from that. Yay...

Tomorrow, the wind is supposed to come with it and my “local” run might become a layover.
At least I got to enjoy some comfort food after I got home. A grilled cheese sandwich and a bowl of tomato soup tastes pretty good on a cold rainy day.

I read a couple posts on here about treating your fuel, I believe it was decided most truck stops treat their fuel anyway, but as you say “South to North” I guess there would be no purpose to do that In the SouthWasted Thyme, PoleCrusher, singlescrewshaker and 4 others Thank this.
